Hi, my daughter had an EPC warning come up and the car was hesitating as though it was going to cut out. My friend used the VW Diagnostics and 2 faults came up

16726 Camshaft Position Sensor - Signal too low - Intermittent

16990 Internal Control Module - Processor Fault - Intermittent

 

The faults were cleared and the car was OK for one journey. Then, the same EPC warning came up on the next journey with the hesitation/stuttering.

 

So, what to do? Does this point to needing a new Camshaft Sensor as a first fix, or something else more radical - the car has done 70K miles but no significant engine work.

 

All advice gratefully received.

 

 

I'd be tempted to grab a cam sensor with the same part number on it from a scrapyard vehicle and see whether anything improves.

If your diagnostic-wielding friend knows how to check for chain timing problems, that would probably be the next step if the cam sensor swap doesn't help.

Which engine are we talking about here?

 

The fact that the engine is ok after a reset suggests this is purely an electrical fault, certainly the diagnostic code suggests that the cam sensor may be failing or the wiring to it is faulty.

It's a 6Y 1200cc 3 cylinder

Thanks for your input - I have got a new sensor for about £12, so we'll see if that sorts it out.
