Good point, however not everyone will want to buy their oil from e-bay (amid rumours of non genuine product sold cheaply, old stock and what not).

A couple of other examples for balance (carparts4less, pre discount code) attached.

Also a common misconception that all franchised dealers use Quantum oil, they all can sell it over the counter for sure, but that doesn't mean that's what they use in the workshop.

Even if you round up the oil to £30 as an average, £5 for a filter that's not a lot for labour let alone disposal costs and overheads, it's a good deal for sure.

They ended up ordering in some oil that they don't usually stock to ensure it was 90% likeness of OEM and I think it ended up taking about 5Ltrs which they haven't done with any of our other cars/vans before but they are all older vehicles.

After picking up yesterday, the total cost was £73  (he did say it would be within 60 and 80 depending on "how thirsty") so pretty happy.

Can't really sniff at that, got the stamp and everything and warranty still intact.

They also fitted me in within a day of calling and meant I could make the 800 mile trip this weekend without exceeding the 700 mile "warning" from the car.

Like I mentioned above I think they do it as a bit of a "loss leader" so we carry on using them for the company fleet.

Can't believe the local Skoda wouldn't budge from £189, terrible!

Can go 1,000 miles over without concern

Their loss. You'd imagine if they'd known you were about to walk away they'd have compromised. £119 is better in their bank account than nothing at all. They can still make money charging £119.

Ah good to know, many thanks.

By the looks of things I needn't been as worried about warranty related things as I was.

Guess that's just what they want at the main dealers though.

Exactly.

Maybe they didn't want to set precedent?

True, there is a lot of counterfeit oil available online at attractive prices. a scary thought. I would only buy from trusted sellers i.e. franchised Skoda dealers, or as you've shown above Euro Car Parts etc.

My local dealer (Pulman Skoda in Durham) use Castrol in their workshop. I was once told though that Quantum was Castrol oil in a Quantum branded container, but then I also heard that it changed to Fuchs at some point.

Either way, it came from the technician himself that they only use VW507.00 for all their servicing, after I queried the use of VW508.00 in my Kodiaq.

Just wanted to say the above Ebay advert comes from Parks East Kilbride.  Can't remember seeing a VAG dealer at their East Kilbride outlet but Parks Motor Group do have a Skoda dealership a few miles down the road.

I didn't actually see the ParksMotorGroup advert when I was searching last year but I bought the same oil from Ebay when servicing my SEAT at an indi. Advert looked almost exactly the same, the only difference being that oil came from a franchised SEAT dealer a few miles in the other direction. Seems South Lanarkshire is a good place for cheap oil !

Incidentally, if you go to those dealerships in person, the oil is more expensive yet they can sell it cheaper including postage via Ebay. Weird eh?
