E-bay Tuning Mod ????

Featured Replies

HELLO ALL,

HAS ANY ONE TRIED ONE OF THESE MODS ?

WHAT I CAN UNDERSTAND FROM THE DISCRIPTION IS THAT THIS PLUGS INTO THE ECU TO ALTER THE AIR FLOW IN TAKE IS THIS TRUE?

QUITE FANCY ONE IF IT WORKS ONLY ABOUT

How about reducing CAPS LOCK use...

It works ok for the money but it can cause errors. I'd get a cheap error reading/reset device too, tell your insurance & then you should be ok.

Doubt you'll find anything cheaper...

:P

cheers 4 that ,insurance dont botha me dont pay it

All they are is a resistor that makes the cars ECU think it is a colder day and pumps more fuel in. £10 alot for a resistor!!! In the end you will get what you pay for. I doubt very much you will notice any difference with your car and as stated above, it will give you ECU warnings. The best option on a limited budget would be a Dragon Digital or Analogue (depending on budget and BHP required) from www.mrhoot.com . I have one fitted and it is fooking brillliant

Hope this helps

I have a cheap analogue resister box fitted, it does give very noticable increase in acceleration, very noticable. (I get more mpg too) for the money, its a cracking "bhp for buck" mod, however, as some of the other replies stated, the bad points are, it will give a fault code on you dash, you would need a fault reader/restetter to deal with this....... (I have one, and remove the chip, and get rid of the fault code before it gets serviced!) another bad point, it makes your car smoke more too.... guess you wont be worried about the cat, as its a company car, neither am I as I will replace my car before I ever need to MOT it, but, I will also be saving for a proper digital tuning box, that doesn't have any of the above problems, and will give more power.....

so recap,

1) great mod for the money, good power increase

2) fault codes and smoke....

hope this helps.....

I know Sharkrider has had some recent experiance with one of these units and is therefore more than able to comment factually unlike some others you will read when you try using the search facility  .

It has been covered time and time again mate, you may also find some pictures and details haow to make your own posted by me sometime ago.

Not all give fault codes ;) And yes, they help it go a bit, erm, I think the main advantages are that it uses less fuel and the gear change is smoother.

Not all give fault codes.

I agree - the fault code is generated by the ECU recieving a signal that is outside of the acceptable parameter. This is caused by having the wrong resistance in the mod.

i had one for a bit. it does give a noticable increase in acceleration but that is coupled with a horrendous amount of black smoke coming out of the exhaust and the trip computer gives false readings for mpg as well. i don`t care how good the vRS engine is, it won`t do 70mpg at 30mph in 3rd gear. thats the sort of readings i was getting on my trip computer.

OK caps off happy:)

I have to comment here. You have a company car. So you don't personally pay the insurance but you would be personally liable for all costs resulting when an accident occurs and the insruance company voids your policy. Don't do it...:thumbdwn:

I ran one of these too (although mine was sold as a Dragon analogue box). Covered the best part of 20k fault free miles and made quite a difference. No smoke on mine (but then my car never really smoked!), very easy to fit and remove and no fault codes generated. It also sailed through it's MOT and wasn't picked up on any of the services it had.

Chris

The digital one is pretty easy to pick up as it has a bunch of wiring - so unless you remove it pre-service etc it will show. Analogue one is actually a lot more stealthy :)
