mine's a 2016 Superb 3 with the old-timey halogens in front . wanting to get LED headlights and DRLs without causing warning lights / fault codes etc . any advice, please ? thanks

I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to replace halogens with LEDs, at least in the U.K. I may be wrong but I’m sure I recall reading that somewhere.

There have quite a few threads on this topicthat came to the same conclusion that led replacements were illegal and that the cost of meeting technical requirements legally are prohibitive.

MOTs look out for that sort of thing now.

 

Easier and cheaper to go for Osram or Philips upgraded halogens.

Apparently the difference is noticeable and worthwhile.

r u talking about:-

1. replace ur current halogen headlight unit with xenon headlight units?

or
2. replace ur halogen globes with LED globes?

 

with option 1, if ur looking at wats currently available from factory, its either halogen type or xenon type.  LED is only available from the new face-lift mk3.5 Superb.

if u go down the xenon headlight units path, then u'll need:-

- headlight washers installer (also requires bigger washer fluid tank), 

- Light Control Modules (LCM). 1x AFS slave controllers for each headlight

- AFS master controller

- AFS leveling sensors, front and rear axles

- LED drivers/controllers, 1x for each headlight

- code and parameter changes to the 55-headlight module

- changes to A5-front camera?

 

with option 2, u could get "LED globes" that can replace the halogen globe, however these r usually not designed for the halogen headlight's reflector design. as they don't have a shield. 

they r better suited to projector style setups, which ur car doesn't have.

 

as @Gerrycan suggested - ur better off upgrading to better performing halogen globes.
