Servicing PD injectors?

Featured Replies

I'm guessing there's nothing about this in the maintenance schedule, but do they need or could use some preventive servicing? I know some people have their rubber O-rings changed or have them cleaned someway.

I've done a can of Diesel Purge, there was very slight improvement in noise reduction, but that was all. I noticed my car idles a bit rough sometimes or at certain rpm's, you can't really hear it unless you focus.

I've done about 110 000 miles. They are Bosch injectors, not those crappy Siemens ones. I really want to do something good for my car and prolong the injector life, maybe restore some of the original fuel economy without the expense of changing for remanufactured ones. Any ideas?  Can they be calibrated or something? I know about the common wiring loom problem, I’m putting a new one in next week.

The only maintenance I’ve heard of is the injector lash adjustment. A specialist recommended it for my 140pd Scout last year. I’ve been tempted to have it done but I keep remembering the old saying “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”

You could remove them and have the serviced by a diesel specialist.

I'll probably do that, just the thing is I want to educate myself a bit on that first so they don't talk me into unneeded procedures and rip me off. There's a Bosch diesel centar near me, they told me that they could test them for about 30 € per injector. So I think I'll take them up on that offer because I think I need to have the injector loom changed as well, but I'm not skilled enough or have the tools to do it myself. I just don't know how much they will charge me for removing and installing the injectors, they woudn't say via email. Do you think it could be expensive?

I found that some people change the rubber O-rings. There's actually a pretty cheap Bosch repair kit (https://www.autodoc.co.uk/bosch/714288) so I'll probably ask them to replace that as well (I read somewhere that they must be replaced every time injectors are taken out).

Yeah the seals should be replaced as well as the retaining bolts and adjustment screws.

If the injectors are under the engine cover you might as well get them to change the loom at the same time as taking out the injectors ! If they remove the injectors they should use new seals etc when putting them back.

That's the plan. I'll just tell them to do all of that hoping they won't overcharge me.

What about the injector nozzle? Does that wear out over time and give worse spray pattern?

Double concentration or more with the diesel injector cleaner, good diesel eg BP Ultimate and an Italian tune-up is a good first step.

I think the nozzle is part of the injector so would be cleaned or changed.
