Offside Side Mirror Lowering During Reverse

Featured Replies

In my old Golf Estate, with the mirror adjust knob in the "L" position, the mirror would automatically lower when in reverse. I can't see any option in the menu for this in my new Karoq and wondered if this should be working, or something that needs to be added via the ODB2/Carista app or similar?

VCDS did the trick on my car. Menu appears after coding...

Works fine in my Edition, but I don't know if it's a feature on the other variants?

A couple of thoughts either way:

Is the option enabled in settings? Vehicle>Settings>Mirror and wiper settings - see attached photo.

Are the reverse and normal positions in the exact same position? Put car in reverse and start to reverse, stop, adjust mirror to desired dipped reverse position, then put car in first gear and drive off - mirror should return to normal position if it's all working correctly...

I'm missing that option from my menu 😞 I have Synchronous adjustment an then Fold in when locking only. Looks like I need to alter it via VCDS. No idea why that option is not enabled on my SE L with automatic wingmirrors!

According to Carista website, it allows the menu options regarding reverse mirror to be changed.

I will load mine up tomorrow and reply with the related settings, I would imagine all are Yes but shall confirm.

It might sound attractive to have the mirror lowering but it can also be a PITA, inasmuch as it stays down until you drive forward at whatever speed and thus, for me at least, when I've reversed out my drive I can't see what's coming up the street behind me....so in our Karoq the option is left unticked.

If you mean the left mirror lowering in reverse, then you mean near-side mirror.

Just saying....

All three options enabled in my Carista as per attached screenshot.

Unless you know someone with OBD11 it might be cheaper getting yourself a Carista at £16 than getting a dealer to do it. It's certainly very easy.

Car have to be equipped with al least one electric seat. Mirror using the seat controller to store initial position. I am not 100% sure if retrofit seat controller , mirror dipping will work , as its might be different step motor/controller of the mirror.

My car does not have electric seat, but mirror dips when reversing (after coding)

Mine does that too, but...

A. It has no memory function so does not return to the correct position after reversing.

B. It has no memory function, so does not remember the correct position to tilt to in reverse.

Without the memory module in the mirror, the mirror just tilts a few degrees and needs to be moved into the correct position to be useful each time. If you do move it to a useful position, then it returns to the wrong position when driving forwards. It needs a memory function to store its normal position and reversing position and on the Karoq it seems this is only available if electrically adjustable drivers seat is installed. Without the memory module, the mirror just tilts to a random position and returns to an equally random position. This is not the full 'nearside mirror lowering when reversing' function.

It returns the correct position after reversing when I put the gear to P. I will record a short clip when I go to the car  ;)

Do you have heated seats ?

Sounds like it is possible to have mirrors with memory as well... But on mine dipping is not working disregards of coding 😞

Yes. No memory seats though.

Thanks!. Do you have VCDS ? It will be great if you can provide coding and adaptation backups of modules 09 and 52 :)

I'm sorry, I had @SashaGrace do my coding. I just watched, dumbfounded by her wizardry!

The reason for this is Skoda not installing 5Q4 door controllers in cars without memory seats whereas VW and Seat do install them as ‘highline’ controllers and use different firmware in their door controllers which allows mirror memory independently of power seats even on some 5Q0 controllers. You cannot retrofit VW or Seat door controllers. The controller functions will all work backwards if you do. You can fit Skoda 5Q4 door controllers and everything will work correctly but memory mirrors have not yet been tested. If and when I can get some spare change together to change my controllers again I will and report back with my findings. No amount of VCDS coding will get you a memory mirror without a 5Q4 door controller and you will need to change both front door controllers for a matching pair.

Thank you very much for your respond! What exactly controllers was in Luckypants car ?  Do you have both part numbers? Are they exactly electrically compatible and can be just directly replaced and coded ?

With best regards

The controllers in that car were the same as mine I think, 5Q0959592A and 5Q0959593B. You will need 5Q4 part numbers but I have not done sufficient research to ascertain exactly which part number you will need yet. They will need a coding tool to hand as the car they are removed from will likely have different options to yours. You will also need to code 09/5F modules to match (potentially).

But how then 5Q0  worked without memory seats ? Or its do have different firmware ?

Actually 5q4 controllers are relatively cheap and if they are exact compatible I can purchase left and right one and just test.

In some Golf’s 5Q0 controllers work without memory seats due to VW firmware. The mirror drop will work on any of the 5Q0 controllers but no Skoda ones have memory functions. 5Q4 door controllers are cheap enough but I have other unfinished projects that I need to spend on first haha.

I am going to purchase them and test.
