"Replace spare battery for alarm"

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have a 2007 Scout.  In the book it says that the spare battery for the alarm should be replaced every six years, so it is due this year.  (I have no idea whether it was done in 2013, before my ownership.)  Is this an easy job?  Where will I find this battery?  And will removing and replacing this battery have any knock-on effects, such as affecting the rest of the car's electrics, or needing something else disconnecting or resetting, or any other complexity?

Many thanks in advance.

The horn -H12- has an emergency battery which cannot be replaced as a separate item.

Removing

–Switch off the ignition and all electrical components. The vehicle must not be locked via the radio control receiver of the central locking.

–Remove the front right wheelhouse liner →Body Work; Rep. gr.66.

–Unscrew nuts -arrows B-.

–Bore out rivet head or pull-off screw -arrow A-.

–Disconnect the plug connection.

–Remove alarm horn from holder.

I wouldn't bother replacing it unless you have fault codes suggesting it needs to be :)

If I remember correctly, this battery can cause battery drain as well when failed.

I'd either fix it or disconnect the siren (whatever is possible, mine doesn't have an alarm so I never checked it)

There are numerous people having issues with a flat battery which ended up being caused by a failing backup battery in their siren.

(Failed battery and the system continously tries to charge it -> eventually draining the battery)

OK, thanks to everyone who replied.  It looks like I could perhaps wait until the horn stops beeping when I lock the car, then change it.  But my manual suggests that the battery can be changed, whereas all the posts and links above suggest that the battery is non-removable so the whole horn unit has to be changed at a cost of £90-ish (parts only).  That seems harsh!  Are we sure this is true?

If you do want to do the DIY battery replacement here's a suitable replacement https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Battery-5-V150H-3Pins-NI-MH-6V-150mAh/263781905649?hash=item3d6aa074f1:g:kvIAAOSwDD1bMzto  it's 50mah less than the original but seems the 200mah packs are no longer available in the UK might be on a slow boat from China ?

Thanks nige8021, I might investigate that.  I did find that battery and others, but it looks like the pins are in the wrong orientation.  Bodgable, I am sure.  The problem I have is lack of time, and I can see myself just buying the whole part.  We'll see.  Thanks again.

When I took mine apart to desolder the old battery I found the PCB and all the components were foutu from the leaking electroltye.

Then I bought a cheap new replacement from Ali-Express which refuses to communicate with the can bus and also the interior sensors wont play either, it may have taken out a fuse but I'm just living without it for now.

Thanks J.R.  Perhaps I may get the proper part from the local dealers, since it is not desperately expensive, and save the risk of having to spend even more time on the job...
