How much for Labour ???

Featured Replies

So my fellow Superb owner at work asked for 2 parts to be quoted

1. Rear air vent , their son took care this one and it's broken

Part price £91.60

Supplied and fitted £196

2. The gear shift surround on the DSG (piano black trim part number 3V2863212A)

Part price £91.50

Supplied and fitted £190

Seems a lot for Labour , especially for the DSG surround which is but a few plastic tabs to remove with some trim tools

Ouch ........!!!

That is one hours labour me thinks

Look at it compared to depreciation in any one year.

£190 for a correctly installed and warrantied part is not really a big deal ;)

The vent okay, price wise its bit expensive, but 100 pounds work??? I took that part off in like 5seconds... Fitting new one takes max 60 seconds total. Hmm for the trim, probably same story... I don't know, sounds truly crazy expensive to me? If these were some big shot parts, but part like simple trim costs like... Fitting takes 5-10min (just had quick look). What warranty? On what? :D.
Even worst quality plastic won't just break, the scratches are not part of warranty anyway so... I am just laying out my thoughts, probably I'm just shocked...

Parts for these cars really cost fortune...

I need to purchase 4 things for my car, I lost 1, broken 3 (some minor interior things) and I have no courage to visit dealer to ask for part prices...

Well then, based on what you say, you would always buy the part and fit it yourself. I tend to do that for parts I break.

FWIW I have looked at removing the rear vents before (as part of noise control efforts), its not without risk of damaging clips associated with the housing etc.

But again, in context of depreciation, this is not really relevant. You are losing £3000 / year

Yep agree. If you are capable then do it yourself. Other option is to ask them to check on the elsa system for the book time for these 2 parts to be removed and refit.  At a guess and from what i remember it will be 20 to 30 time units.  If they refuse to let u see the official time you know they are having your pants down!
