Dsg dual mass flywheel and clutches questions

Featured Replies

Hi everybody, I currently own a 62 plate octavia vrs with the cr170 tdi engine mated to the 6 speed dsg gearbox. I noticed some time ago that the dual mass flywheel is chartering on certain occasions sometimes when the car is warm or even sometimes when the car is cold, on Saturday I went to out my foot down in a high gear coming up a bank and as it came on boost the steering wheel started shaking, am I right in saying that is a sign of dmf failure and also when replacing the flywheel do I need to replace the clutches aswel? And also I am lead to believe there is an inspection plate to check the flywheel, is this true? I have a extended warranty on the car and I plan on claiming for the dmf and clutches but wanted to get my facts right 1st b4 contacting the warranty company. Thanks very much in advance for any help I may receive from any 1

How many miles has it done? In most cases, the DMF will be considered wear and tear so probably isn't covered by the warrenty unless you can prove it's a fault or the warranty is amazing.

I'm no expert on a DMF, still, vibrations at low RPM certainly seem to fit with other people descriptions when it's failed. Are you still only getting vibrations at low rpm under load?

The clutches are internal to the gearbox, the DMF isn’t.

Hi, thanks for the reply, the car has 60,000 on the clocks, I was under the impression that the dmf and clutches are ment to last the life of the car ona dsg tramismision, yeah the main symptom is a intermittent rattle and also for the 1st time I had vibrations when throttling up in a high gear going up a bank with smooth tarmac

Thanks for the reply, so basically it will just need the dmf replacing ? So a worn dmf crnt damage the clutches

My policy actually includes  awear and tear policy

Correct

Yes, as above.

I had my DMF replaced when I purchased the car, without having the clutches done.........7 years later, touch wood still good..........

Have you not seen all the threads on dual mass flywheel issues ??? I think there is a few of them...

Give the car a hard life and they can get damaged early. Mine was done at just over 100,000 miles.

One way or another it needs done, just hope it's rattling it's tits off when I take it to be inspected, I'm thinking the warranty company may have to use either Skoda or a autobox specialist to do the job as there's only two autobox specialists in the northeast  where I live
