Is this true?

Featured Replies

A chiptuning company rep answering to my claim related to uneven acceleration after remap told me that one of the things that I can try is to recalibrate the gas pedal sensor:

Open engine hood, drivers door, contact (engine off) and wait for about a minute.

I did it - something changed in the car behaviour (or just placebo) - but my question is: it works this way? (I mean the calibration)

Robert

Throttle body calibration, yes it is true.

yes it was about the throtle - but my englisch ....

Hm.... I'm wondering what else can be done with such simple "tricks"? like get some extra bhp or mpg

I will start testing tomorrow:

1 door open

then 2 doors open

and so on

who knows?

I will let you know about the results

I have heard that if you turn the intermittent wipers on its lowest setting and turn the dash blower on full blast at max heat you get a red face. :o

Next you'll be telling me you can read the ECU through the heater :bouncer:

Or that you can access lots of info through the Climatronic display (when we eventually get a translation of the codes...........) :(

We have a thread somewhere explaining throttle body adaptation but I'm blowed if I can find it. Anyone else care to have a search?

Throttle adaptation

Using VAS 5051,VAG 1551/1552, VAG Com it is possible/necessary on some engines to adapt the electronic throttle. This sets the throttle in relation the the engine ECU and the pedal.

When in the engine ECU (channel 01) select 'basic settings' (Function 04). Then select the appropiate channel, usually 060 or 098. The engine ECU will then run the throttle from one stop to the other recording the values to the ECU. If this is not set properly you may have idle problems or you may not be reaching full throttle. You can loose basic setting of the throttle body if the battery has gone flat or been disconnected.

This mainly applies to the petrol models.

It is also possible to set up the throttle pedal in the same manner if the car is fly by wire.

Might not be relevant, but perhaps it is. I have this feature on my APR chip, basically I can erase codesand manually trigger a TBA reset by holding a button for 2 seconds. But APR state it's only to be done when the engine is cold.

Thanks for that, Geoff. Proof that my memory hasn't totally deserted me yet.

Ya right, what about that tener you owe me Denis.

I owe you a tenor? I don't think I know any tenors, Des, apart from the usual three and they are all too expensive for all of us even if we club together. :(

(Have been to the local Waitrose for a cheese and wine (42 varieties) evening so am having trouble hitting keys in the right order. Will edit what I have typed tomorrow).

Didn't know cheese was that intoxicating, Denis! ;)

I owe you a tenor?

Pavarotti, Carreras or Domingo ?
