Advice for a new owner?

Featured Replies

Hi All!

Last week I collected my Yeti, a 2015 SEL 1.2TSI DSG with 4K miles on the clock from Allams in Epsom and I absolutely love it.

I was wondering if there was anything that I should look out for with the car, any potential problems that might come along etc.

I should probably add that this is my first car, so I don't have much experience in noticing faults, differences in engine noise, and things of that nature.

It's mostly being used for taking my other half around and commuting to work (~30 miles, all dual carriageway/motorway).

Any advice here would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the Yeti bit of the forum.  It's often said by other Briskodans that we rarely look over the fence at the other sections (possibly true, as you didn't get a Yeti reply in the Hello!! forum), and that we're all old, grey-whiskered and cantankerous (partly true, some of us are.  Marie B isn't, though, for example.)  Generally, we're a friendly bunch who simply share an enthusiasm for the Yeti and a willingness to talk about it and share help and infomation.  There will inevitably someone along soon with Helpful Hints for the New Owner.  If you want to look for something in particular, try a web search via https://www.briskoda.net/search/#gsc.tab=0   with Yeti as the first filter.

Enjoy your car!  A good find.

If the vehicle has only done 4k in 4 years it would be interesting to know whether the vehicle was used regularly or was laid up for a while. Were all the routine serviceable items replaced as they should be (age rather than mileage)?

Due to tbe low mileage it may be worth having an independent inspection carried or on it,  regardless of whether one was carried out by the selling garage.

Happy new car. 4K is very low mileage for the age but I'm sure that will not be a problem. I think the Yeti will be a cult car in time. Good choice.

Looking at the service history it appeared to do about 1500miles in the first year, then just under 1000 each following year.  At it's service in Nov 2018 it had 3800miles on the clock...

The only thing to worry about is the dsg. They are inherently ok but can be damaged by misuse.

If used correctly it will last for many years and hopefully the entire life of the car.

Plenty of threads on here about how to use it correctly and avoid excessive wear to the clutch pack.

Notwithstanding the low mileage, definitely make sure all time-related service and maintenance items have been covered.

Yes, I would have a full service now - oil, filters, brake fluid and a complete check up by a dealer. Low mileage not always a good thing!

Once that is done then enjoy your new car knowing it is up do date with service checks etc.

I thoroughly enjoyed my two Yeti, I hope you do to.
