Does anyone know how to successfully remove the centre dash vents?  The whole unit incl. hazard light switch and airbag warning seems to be removable but my initial prying with trim removal tools have led to the conclusion that I'm likely going to break something and the chrome surround seems quite fragile..

 

I'm not sure if this will require 'special' tools as there appears to be two release catches (one on each vent) behind the top most slats and I'm guessing that these need to be pressed whilst simultaneously pulling the unit out (?)

 

Background: Vibration from that area which the dealer can't be bothered to locate/fix despite me demonstrating it and also providing a video. Reported over a year ago, 3 dealer visits and still not sorted.   It's now starting to spoil the car as I can't drive above 3k revs without the sound of swarm of angry bees from the vent area.  When it's really warm then it will happen at coincidentally the same revs as the car is doing with the CC set at 70mph!  ARRRRGGGHHH .  I'd like to get in there and take a look. 

I don't know how to get the vents out but I too had a vibration for over a year and on the last visit about 4 weeks ago now the dealership removed part of the dash and replaced the air con evaporator pipes and brace. And since then it's been bloody perfect. 

 

I was so lucky because the last visit was out of warranty and they had told me they were not prepared to look anymore but I stood my ground and managed to get them to take it back in one more time.

I had a look in the repair manual, but I can't seem to find anything specific to the area ur looking at.

All I could find was this, not useful though.....

 

 

There is a special tool out there. You have to slot it into the vent and hook it from behind.
