Hi Al, That’s cool to know you’re not far away, Do you get really physical with your Skoda and keep the stealers out by doing it yourself? Ricard

That sounds like a really cool thing. Something I’d like to know more about. When I was ignored in my local SKODA dealer when looking for a replacement for my VRS TDI with a VRS TDI (I like them so much), I decided not to buy anything more from dealer, but instead spend money on making sure my existing VRS is good for its next 150K. Along the way I’ve encountered strange things that seem to insist I can only set them on dealer network equipment. So, to keep going this is one of those things I need to consider, until I see the price is not so small! I must save harder!

Octavia VRS sounds nice, mine is a 2007 Scout 4x4 quite nippy seeing its been remapped to 190bhp but for ever getting lecky problems with it, I bought it cheap so had a lot of moment for repairs i guess

I wanted a 4x4 as I live in a place where a 4x4 and a big estate boot comes in handy

Hi all. Been looking at loads of stuff on here recently. But this free link which sealover1 keeps popping up over the last few years has made me want to register just so I could have a piece of the free pie if possible 😂. Unless anyone else is able to attach a link? I’ve recently got myself a octavia vrs estate and have a few little snags to bring up to standard. Issue I’m trying to find out more on is no reversing lights. Changed bulbs and fuse, but still no joy. I’m thinking it could be reversing light switch, but I’m struggling on where this is on my vehicle. Any help would be very welcome 👍

Was excited to download manual for Octavia 2, but I must be some kind of dummy. After going through the Mega download and installing on my iPad, I found a huge zip file which could not be accessed directly. Eventually I managed to download 5 files, but the reality is that these look like OS installation files for Windows or Mac. I am presuming these are programs through which the manual is viewed, but I’m only guessing. I wonder if anyone has a straight PDF of the manual? On an iPad those install files don’t make much sense and can’t be used. Anyone got any ideas if there’s a simpler way to get access to the manual?

Hello all,

Could anyone please share again the Mk2 manual? I checked the links in the thread but they are all dead.

I'm looking for a manual that includes 2.0 FSI 4x4 (BVX engine).

Thanks so much'

Hi Sealover1,

Its not a downloadable PDF. Haynes keep the manual in the cloud and provide you access to it with username and password. I expect they've had enough of manuals suddenly being re-produced by users right left and centre. It is a worthwhile investment. Much better than another manual I ordered that was packed full of irrelevant stuff and not really instructional, it looked more like a parts manual.

Hi mate, is the manual any good though? I'm rebuilding a BWA engine (MK2 1Z3) so would need all the detailed diagrams, info (torques, etc). Just like you I got stung with a useless manual I paid for before. I still have the file which was uploaded a million times in the thread but can't seem to get it loaded with VirtualBox (running on Windows 10) anymore if my life depended on it. Will upload for free download in case someone else manages to use it.  Link to follow shortly.

Thanks

Yes, the Haynes manual is pretty good. It doesn't go into extraordinary complex detail as in the 5000 page one that has been sold online recently, which is more like the manufacturers workshop manual, and pretty hard to get around, although in PDF thats easier than a paper binder! The Haynes is very good for all the kinds of jobs that owners may want to do that they would rather not engage a main stealer to do. I'm not familiar with the BWA engine as I am a diesel owner but you should get all you need to be able to rebuild. It has info like the necessary torques. I used for replacing crankshaft main bearings and big end shells. However, I was unsuccessful in the end because I did not withdraw pistons, separate them from rods and get the rods checked for straightness. It turned out my problem was a bent rod. There weren't any symptoms like misfire but over about 50 miles with the new shells, the shells on the journal with the bent rod, burnt out, and put lots of bearing shell tiny particles into the oil. But now, if it answers your question, I will be able to use the Haynes manual to rebuild my engine again, except this time I need a new crankshaft. But that's OK in that it explains all that, the necessary torques etc. However, when trying to rebuild an engine, it more often makes sense to do it with the engine out of the vehicle.

Thanks for coming back to me on it. Found Elsa Online for the moment and seems to have enough info for me to proceed with the rebuild, push comes to shove I'll buy the Haynes manual. The engine is not on the car, it's basically a spare one I was rebuilding for it when I bought the car (got it as spares or repairs running on 3cylinders), until I found a low mileage (29k)  complete engine+gearbox for a steal price. I had this spare one preserved (oiled up, wrapped all parts) and shelfed for almost 2 years now - everything was cleaned and ready to put back together  prior to buying the other engine. Had the engine head skimmed and rebuilt completely (valves, springs, rockers, etc) and all parts for a complete engine (+gearbox) are there, bar a timing kit which I've used for the engine I have in the car. Still not decided on whether to rebuild it entirely including ancilliaries or block + head only - it'll be up for grabs once it's completed (still thinking I might do with keeping the spare turbo, HPFP, injectors were flow tested and resealed, AC compressor, etc).

😛

Hi bud, try the link below, register if needed and you can access all data:

https://t.me/kolhosniki_en

Got this off a link mentioned earlier in this topic - kudos to the person that posted this originally, yearly cost way less than what I'd have paid to offset the 5-6 hours spent trying to get the old image up and running on VirtualBox

Select ELSA online or classic (recommend as it's better organised) and create a username and password. Annoying banner there if you want free access, $3/month or $15/year to remove it and get access to VIN search.

This is an online version of ELSA containing VAG workshop manuals - update compared to the version being mentioned in the thread for the past few years. You can select make/model/year/engine to get the specs for yours. It is a dealer's workshop manual with all possible details, most likely better than the Haynes manual.

Hope this helps you get that car back on the road swiftly so you can enjoy it. 😉
