Spare key - Octavia estate

Featured Replies

Hi everyone! Recently purchased a 16 plate Octavia 1.6 diesel estate and loving it. Car only came with one key, garage said it might turn it up in a few weeks (they got it via auction). No sign of it within two months so went to my local Murray Skoda and ordered one. £96. Has to come from Germany I was told. Must pay up front. Then a further £55 to code it to my car. You know what’s coming next! Within a week of ordering garage phone me to say the spare has come through via the auction house!!!! Speak to Skoda and ask if I cancel order n they say no. Question is - can I do anything re this uncoded spare? Can I sell it? Will it work for anyone else (once coded to them?) Skoda say no as it is unique to my car but just wanted to check with you guys before it sits in my draw doing nothing! Sorry for long post!

A warm welcome to the Forum !  As the seller didn't have it at sale and you kindly waited two months for them to find it, I would be inclined to give them the bill as it is unreasonable not to have the car with two keys at the point of sale, especially a comparatively new one.  If they don't agree, start mentioning trading standards and CAB.

Not worth much to anyone as it will be cut to your car.

But hey, you got two spares now.

I do not see what trading standards has to do with it. The OP bought the car knowing that it only had one key and the second key was not part of the deal. A lot of cars are sold second hand with only one key. A quick search on this forum would prove that.

To answer the OPs question as I understand it the uncoded key could be sold on and the purchaser would only need to get a new blade fitted for the lock on their car and then get it coded.

Just give it a go, nothing ventured.
