Fabia mk1 creasy flashing & clicking on dash

Featured Replies

Hi, I hope somebody will have an idea.
Car Fabis 1.9 SDI classic, 2001.
Issue and facts: Three things start to flash on the dashboard at the same time and the indicator clicker is clicking with it:
- Turn signal lighs, (both, left and right)
- Trailer turn signal lights
- Generator (battery icon)
See attached image
Tha car is runing fine and everithing else is normal.
There is no flashing on the external indacators!
No towbar is on the car.

It is complitaly random. Sometimes:
- Just a flashes, clicking and nothing for days.
- It start and doesnt stop for the whole trip. In this case after about a minute the warrning beeper kicks in with the high pich and just beeping.
- It can do it without key in! If it is in the mode/mood then it will do 6 flashing and clicking when I open or close any of the front doors. If I open the door in the morning, it is fine.

What I have learned and tryed:
- It is happening more when the weather is warm/hot.
- Vibration can influence it but it is random too
- desconeccting the battery for a night.
- desconeccting the aftermarket alarm / central lock system
- removeing the fuses one by one
- checked the looms going into the front doors

Can it be a relay? Which One should I test then?

Please help!

Thanks

And a video

Possibly a bad solder joint on the back of the cluster or a bad connection at the cluster plugs.

Hi TMB,

I don't think that would be the issue.

It can trigger the clicking and it does nor react if I hit the dashboard.

It's only going to be a fault with the cluster, that's the only common component (assuming battery voltage is OK and the battery/cluster is earthing satisfactorily).

The cluster is very easy to remove. Take the plugs off the back and  spray them and the cluster pins with contact cleaner. If that doesn't work, check the solder joints where the plugs go.

The two joints shown in this first pic are the immobiliser ones, but check them all...

Hi TMB,

I have tried, no luck but the weather is warm therefore it is creasy now so was able to take some shots.

As you will see, it is clicking with or without ignition.

You can download it from here.

OK if you've done the things I've suggested it probably needs a new or used cluster which would need to be coded to the car.

It’s a faulty cluster.

Thanks guys!

Then I will castrate the beeper on the cluster's PCB. I can live with the other symptoms.

Technically the beeper has to work for the MOT

You can get used clusters off ebay really cheap but don't know how much a Skoda dealer would charge to program it. Not even sure if they're allowed to fit used ones.

O yes, after Tech1e mentioned the MOT, I have checked it on Ebay, £20. I will find out how much would be the programing and think about it.

The thing is that I want to sell it because we are moving to Europe so I can't take it.

Hi,

Would you have any suggestions, when to find somebody who can do the reprogramming on a second hand cluster?

Skoda service would order a new cluster from the factory for £700 something + 😁

What’s you location?
