vrs space saver wheel but stumped

Featured Replies

I have a new vrs petrol on order but stupidly didn't order a space saver wheel which im now regretting . I have done a search but all that has done is confuse me even more with so many different numbers popping up . Can anyone explain in simple terms what I need to be looking for ? I would imagine I will buy a second hand wheel off ebay as hopefully I will never need it . Any help or advice would be great .

I might have a space saver for sale shortly, no tools just the wheel and the tyre. It is coming out of a 19 plate 245 Vrs.

Where are you located ?

west midlands so along way from you unfortunately

When did you order, if recently dealer should be able to add spare wheel option. It’s certainly cheaper to spec than to retrofit.

Why not get a full size spare, rather than a space saver.

From what I gather it will raise the floor

I have a full size 18 inch matching alloy as my spare. It raises the floor a fraction but you hardly notice. Certainly better than a space saver, especially on long journeys.

£210 from a Dealer with the insert, tools etc.  I enquired recently.

They didn't give me a number..  you don't need one to order it, just tell them you want the spare wheel kit for the 18"/19" wheels.

That's the hard part to stomach , would of been £150 if I had ordered at the time . Would be quite happy to buy a badly kerbed gemini wheel but not easy to find one of those .  Lots of 18" space savers on ebay for older golfs but don't know if these will fit without some advice .

I guess it's the same cost then now...

Effectively the tyre weld kit will be worth £60, the space saver £210, so you'd have just had to pay the difference.  Now you'll have to have both.

The ones on eBay don't generally come with the inserts and Jack etc from what I've seen.

Went through it all before in THIS post. Only difference is with a new vRS you will have to check the offsets of a full size steel if that is the way you wanted to go as the track has been widened on the new vRS

I have  a 19" spare when I bought my new vrs. Most dealers will do a space saver, tools and incert for cost if you buying a car from them. Just push them not costing them anything.

I’ve gone with a 19” space saver from an Audi A5. Matches much closer with my superb 235/40-19 with a tool kit from a shakers 18”. Fits well and doesn’t raise the floor
