Skoda connect

Morning all,

So a couple of questions about Skoda connect, firstly it says when you try and lock the vehicle from the app you need to register your driving licence or some nonsense?! What is this all about?

Secondly do I need to use my phone's hotspot everytime I want it to work?

I believe you need to register with the dealer to enable lock/ unlock using connect, so not any Tom, **** or Harry can enable it and unlock your car.

The car needs to have *some* connection in order for it to work, a better alternative is to get a sim card for the infotainment system slot in the glove box. I got a free one from 3 that just has 200mb of monthly data, to test it out, works fine: https://www.three.co.uk/Free_SIM_MBB/Order

The car has an e-sim from factory, this gives you Skoda Connect and connections to the roof buttons. However there is a fee to pay after the first year I believe.

If it’s anything like the VW We Connect you can do the verification directly through the app through a video chat. I had it shown my driving license which they took a photo of (through the app) and answer a couple questions. Only took a couple of minutes.

Ok thanks for the help, used my phone as a hotspot and had a look at the stuff on connect but doesn't look like anything i would really use. Only things i like so far are the things on the app, i.e. where you have parked, honk and flash etc, and the locking and unlocking if i can get that registered.

Its a lot of crap , I doubt anyone pays for it after year one

The fact that one can start heating/cooling and open/lock the car is worth it alone.

We can not do remote heating in the UK, and Remote unlock/lock only works on cars purchased after November 2018.

 

My car is a mid November 2018 model, and i can not use remote lock function, only flash and honk.
