Few problems fixed

Featured Replies

some of you might know about the creaking noise i was getting when going over speed bumps... well the dealers changed the front ARB and everything is fine now.

the throttle body has been changed as well so i shouldnt get engine lights on the dash anymore either. i havent had the car back long enough to see if its resolved the surging problem but i'll let you know.

the gearbox is still notchy and 1st gave me the usual problem on the way home from the dealers but because the test drive didnt show the problem they arent sure what to do.

theres a split in the inner shaft boot so one has been ordered and the adjuster on the driver headlight doesnt work so a new headlight has been ordered as well.

i'm hoping that when i go back the 1st gear thing will show up so they can do something about it. the technician did say he would contact Skoda to see if they knew anything about this problem.

I am not sure if it is the same but migh be worth a look.

on mark 2 golfs there is a plastic part in the gearbox which over time can cause simlar problems. might be woth having a look into and I am sure someone else will know

theres been a few people on here already advise to having the same or simular problems but getting the dealer to do anything unless they experience the problem is another matter.

Basically what happens is from neutral you cannot select 1st... you have to go back to neutral, let the clutch out and then try again, the second time works fine everytime. occasionally when the car is cold it doesnt select reverse very well kind of going half way into the gear. again, dropping into neutral and trying again works fine.

I get the same problem when trying to engage reverse from a cold start.

Let me know if you get it sorted.

I used to get that in my audi, and asking for the gearbox oil to be topped up often helped with gear selection - mine used to refuse to go into 2nd when going onto roundabouts, which made things dicey sometimes.

My gearchanges on the Octy have felt a bit "drier" lately (as in the gearbox feels a bit more like moving the gearstick through air and not smooth oil), so I plan to get it topped up at next service. It seems to make it feel like changes do not glide in - they bang a little on the way.

i find it strange that a gearbox would "use" oil though, surely there shouldnt be any burnt away during use like in the engine...

i'm going to ask them to look at it again when it goes in for the gator and headlight change so we'll see what happens.

Octavia gear boxes are/should be sealed for life.

Do you mean that they cannot be topped up, or that topping up IS possible but should not be necessary?

i would think it can be be shouldnt be nessasary

I know that the audi specialist I used said "we topped it up a little" and it felt massively better afterwards. As for where it went, I have no idea.

And Me.

Also get it on first, which is esp annoying at a set of lights when you can't get it into gear.

Very strange! I had the exact same problem (on both counts, i.e. ARB and EM light coming on). The car is currently in for a CAM Belt change at a dealers in Exeter and I've asked them to look at the other two as mentioned. Hopefully it will have been sorted by the time I collect it. . .

This forum is truly brilliant. If nothing else, it's informative to the extent that you're safe guarding yourself from being ripped off by a garage!!!:thumbdwn:

Cheers,

John
