switch next to obd port

Featured Replies

hi guys

what is the switch next to the obd port with a pic of a light on it ?

cheers.

Try it and see if it switches the DRL's off when the ignition is on, or if they are off switches them on.

well done that man it is for the driving lights . am puzzled as to why you need such an option tho ?

So that technicians can switch them off when working on the car and not wanting things on drawing power, or because people do not like DRL's.

The switches got done away with though which is a PITA when you want them off.

why didnt they just put the switch on the normal light switch ? weird ..

cheers buddy 👍

Because people were not to be encouraged to switch them off.

& maybe because people often have no idea what lights are on or read owners manuals to see what switches are for.

Point taken

Some models did not have them, either. I am not a major fan of them as many owners "Forget" to turn on the normal lights at night. They have a lovely illuminated dash, a glowing front end and no rear lighting at all. The Swedes (Saab, etc) at least, used to put sidelights on at all times, ensuring a very basic minimum of light output, front and rear.

my dash isnt lit until i turn on the actual light switch ,but yes i do know what you mean . i used to have a golf and forgot a couple of times to turn lights on .. all ligths on cars should be controlled via photo cell or similar to solve it imo easy old tech.

No switch here (think they started removing it in the 2.5 face lift) and only my Needles (not the dials themselves) are illuminated till I put the Side/Main lights on! Otherwise it's a completely black hole with just my Maxi-Dot and two pointy things moving in arcs in the dark! 😁

I think that’s my least favourite thing about the DRLs and the dashboard in my non maxidot Greenline II, the dashboard won’t illuminate at all without turning on side lights/main beams as you say, but the sidelights are like damp candles compared to the DRLs! Also, the sidelights won’t turn off when you turn the car off.

I wish the gauges were constantly illuminated like in the older Avensises and Lexuses, it looked cool and it meant that when you were driving in daylight without lights on and then went into a shady bit, you could still see the dials.
