Yes I have took everyone's advice onboard and I am going to flush the system and replace the coolant and monitor the situation.

I got a quote only to see how much it would be ( worst case scenario ).

Thanks for all the advice and help 👍.

Excellent, because in all the time I've been on this forum I cannot remember ever seeing a single post about head gasket failure on any of the four cylinder 16 valve engines, it is completely unheard of. I suspect you'd have to overheat the engine so dramatically that it would seize before the head gasket failed.

  • The AUB doesn't have an oil cooler.   I've not seen an AUB head gasket fail so I would first drain, flush and refit the antifreeze, new header tank (they are really cheap) and see how it goe

That's just spillage, nothing to worry about.

  • And now you see why I was suspicious of the CTS; it has 2 channels, and can supply a duff value to the EMS and a good one to the gauge or vice versa.

Yeah, these little engines (aua/aub) proved to be quite bulletproof. So did the sister engines (bby/bbz) although they burned the spark coils. The only problem that is common enough is the oil consumption.

Yeah they certainly like to consume the oil, all the cars I've had previously I hardly ever had to top up the oil.

But I must admit I have hardly ever had any problems with the car apart from normal wear and tear and even that hasn't been much considering it's 17yrs old now.

No oil use in my BBY, or not enough to notice. Still on original coilpacks too I think, but I carry a spare.

Mine, aub with 230k km on the clock consumes about 100-150 ml every 1000km. My sister's Ibiza with the bby consumed fairly the same plus 2 burned coils.

Anyway, I stop here to keep clean the thread.

Quite possibly, but my Mum's Jazz didn't use oil. Of course, it did get occasional "Mash throttle out of roundabout" treatments from me...

Update on Possible HD failure, I have been monitoring my coolant as advised and so far there has been no more oil in the coolant, and I'm not losing any coolant. so all good so far🤞
