Towing with a Fabia Estate 1.9TDi

Featured Replies

I have an Estate 1.9TDi 100 which I've owned since new (2001) and am thinking of getting a caravan (2 berth, about 1000/1050kg max) - has anyone out there had any experience of towing with this car?

On paper it looks good, plenty of power and weight! I know there is an overhang, but its not that big and I like the extra space in the estate! Have towed with many cars in the past, btw!

Thanks!

Used to tow with a h/back, max tow is 1000kg, noseweight is only 50kg, towed very well no problems just abit short of space hence the oct'y.

My father has an Estate PD 100, and it seems ok. I fitted the towbar for him, might have some pictures here if you want info.

That would be very helpful, Stu!

Ok, here are a few pictures for you.

One the parts of the kit, one shows the rear of the car with the crash bar removed, another shows the ready drilled bolt holes, another shows the bar in place on the car.

The kit is the genuine Skoda part with a removable bar. It's not the cheapest option but it is a nice solid bit of kit. It uses a removal flap in the bumper which requires a special tool to cut the hole. Dad had his cut out at the dealer and they had the flap painted.

I dunno what electrics you were thinking of, we did both 12N and 12S. The flap arangement isn't big enough to support the two sockets so last weekend I swapped it for a Euro type socket which is ideal.

I have more pics but it seems pointless posting them, I can email them if you really want to see them.

Feel free to ask questions.
