A few questions about my new Superb

Featured Replies

Loving my 2018 Superb estate SE business, however I have a couple of things I would like to resolve.

Is it possible to turn off the automatic rear wiper as it's driving me nuts scraping a dry rear window when I have the front wipers going. The book tells me it is in the car settings menu under wipers but I only have the ability to turn off automatic wiping and wipe the rear screen when reverse is engaged....

Secondly I have checked the box for dip wing mirrors when reverse is engaged but nothing happens when I engage reverse, what am I doing wrong?

I have the Columbus 9.2" how can I tell if the firmware is up to date? I have gone to the update portal and it says no software is available for the VIN I have so I am guessing I have the latest?

I have a plus sized phone which only just fits in the phone tray, my car does not have the USB under the centre console/arm rest, can one be installed easily so I can put my phone in there?

Thanks in advance!

IIRC you need to have the door switch in either the left or right position for it to work.

I find it to be a Marmite option and have actually disabled the function though.

That's what it means. A dealer could confirmn for you if you are really concerned about it but it would get updated at next service if required.

The switch on the door panel for your windows needs to be set to the left (about 10 o/c position) for this to work.

I can't answer the rear wipe question as I don't have one.

dodgy fingers

Something appears amiss as I didn't actually say what you quoted! :x

Is it those dodgy fingers again? ;)

@john999boy Coz I copied from your post instead of Matterhorn. Brain fuzz rather than fingers this time.🙄

Are you asking about the occasional single wipe of the rear wiper (designed to wipe settling spray), or virtually continuous wiping ?

Which position is your wiper switch in, is it away from you (towards dashboard) or in normal.

Not quite sure why you need front wipers if windows are dry, but system assumes rear needs wiping if in reverse, and occasionally needs wiping if front needs to be wiped

Posts above are correct re getting the mirror to dip on engaging reverse, but you have to set it up initially, and it sounds like this is the bit you haven't done yet. You need the ignition on. Engage reverse, then use the mirror control "joystick" to set the mirror to the dipped position you want. To do this the mirror setting needs to be put to the passenger side as @Sagalout describes. Then save this setting through the seat settings (press one of the memory buttons and "Set" on the seat base). Be warned though - if you then change the seat memory, you will need to do it all again, as I learned a couple of times.

When I have automatic wipers going the back wiper also wipes intermittently (in the normal position), as the back window does not get anywhere near as wet as the windscreen I end up with the friction of the rubber on dry window.

Thanks for everyone's replies!!

built in USB sockets (MY16) can't charge Galaxy Note 4 when it's in use (for Waze)
feeding phone by 12v to USB QC3.0 adapter
similar to this, just with blue display

Have you checked this:

Automatic rear wiper
If the windscreen wiping is performed without interruption, then the automat-
ic regular intermittent wiping of the rear window takes place.
This function can be activated/deactivated in Infotainment in the menu  / 
→  → Mirrors and wipers (activated/deactivated).
Note
■ The rear window is wiped automatically if the windscreen wipers are on
when reverse gear is selected.
■ The setting (activation/deactivation) of the automatic rear window wiping in
the rain is stored (depending on the Infotainment type) in the active user ac-
count personalisation » page 55.

Unfortunately it's not easy at all.

I've researched the retrofitting of it, as I too am keen on doing it.

The parts (upgraded USB hub, USB socket, and wiring harness) r easy to source.

It's the fitting that's a pain as it will involve removing the rear part of centre console, the storage compartment, the gear box cover, and the phonebox USB 12v socket compartment.

This is the bit that turns me off from doing it.

But if ur keen - let me know, I can share the part numbers and a Russian website with step by step instructions.

I'm not that keen! 😜 Thanks.

@BriskodaJeff @Sagalout thanks for the info on the mirrors. I have tried this but it has not worked. Is it just the left mirror that dips hence setting it to the left position when setting it....

So....

ignition on

Engage reverse

Joystick to left

Position mirror as needed.

Press set then number 1 on seat...

Cheers

@MileMile I had read that in the book.

This bit is making me scratch my head. Under account personalisation there is no option for this??

I don't know. I have only one user, and haven't changed anything under "account personalisation". Maybe you could check if setting for wipers is remembered for different users (if you have more than one) in "mirros and wipers" section.  I mean, maybe there is no explicit "setting" under account personalisation. Just like for example seat positions - you don't "see" what exact seat inclination etc is saved, it just is.
