Do all injectors need replacing?

Featured Replies

Injector failed on my 2010 1.6.  Garage fixing it under warranty, arent happy about it and are treating me like s***.  Well meaning friends get involved.  One says they MUST change ALL injectors.  The other says on a modern engine you just DO change them all, dont have the option of just doing one.   I will (attempt to) confirm when I pick it up exactly what work has been done, but if they have changed the one, should I be freaking out?

Much obliged....

I had an injector fail on me and had only the one replaced and not had any problems, but the injectors need to be coded in to the ecu with vcds

make sure the garage has that done i am assuming yours is a diesel.

Yes it is!

At what £400 roughly each it would be expensive to change 3 injectors that were working fine.

Didnt know if the 4/500 was for one or a set!  It's expensive whichever way you look at it imo.

It is but there is a big difference for 400 quid to replace a broken injector and 1200 to replace perfectly good ones.

They are under no obligation to replace functional parts.

No point freaking out or they might just take it back with the excuse of looking further into it and fitting a second hand injector or persuading the old one to function long enough for you to drive it away.

Why spend £400 or whatever it cost them just to get bad press.

Like i say, someone told me it wasnt possible to replace just one on a modern engine anyway so 400 could have been for a set.  This guy is usually good with his info, and then a second person backed that up so i thought id better look into it as this garage dont give me any confidence tbf.

I dont know your engine and as you havn't specified if its petrol or diesel what you say may well be the case but its not the case on the vehicles I am familiar with.

Now a garage charging a customer saying that they have to replace the whole set, yes that I can believe, equally the same garage when faced with a warranty repair deciding that its no longer the case :D

If they have managed to replace just the faulty injector you dont have anything to complain about.

I didnt say they were friends 🤣 but yeah i'll switch off

People usually change the failed ones, especially because they are rather expensive.

AFAIK, there is no need to change them in a set , so if the garage refuses to do that - you shouldn't blame them for that.

As an example, for those suffering multiple injector failure after having the emissions software fix, Skoda's policy under their Trust Building Measures seems to be to replace the injectors one at a time for the first two failure but on the third failure they will replace the last one as well.
