P2196 code

Featured Replies

Hi just got a p2196 code up says it the O2 sensor which commonly known as the MAF sensor... checked all pipes and wiring no issues gonna change the sensor see if that works.... any other ideas if no difference?

The O2 is not the MAF sensor.

O2 sensor is in the exhaust

Surely it must be the maf sensor as I’m not getting any black smoke the car idles perfect no loss in power only using more fuel is the downside

Looking online, P2196 is generally mentioned with the lambda/oxygen (O2) sensor which is in the exhaust...

If it were the MAF sensor, you'd probably be getting codes starting P010x depending on the exact fault.

The MAF sensor doesn't measure oxygen, it measures the amount of air (including nitrogen and everything else that makes up the atmosphere we live in) that the engine is pulling in.

The oxygen sensor is in the exhaust, and as the name suggests it measures the oxygen that is left in the exhaust, and helps to determine if the car is running rich or lean.

Why must it be the MAF? Especially as it’s giving you a fault with the lambda probe.
