Rear connectors on Swing (?) radio

Featured Replies

Hi -I am new to the forum although I have had a Skoda Fabia for a few years. I have just bought a 2016 Yeti 2ltr Outdoor with what I think is a Swing radio. I want to upgrade it and there is lots of great information in the site. However on the rear of the existing unit is the aerial plug and next to it another connector which is greenish/yellow in colour and appears to be a small din style connector with 4 pins. When I have looked at pictures of the Columbus unit there doesn't seem to be a similar socket on those units. Anybody any idea what is it for and if I swap the head unit will something not work! The attached picture shows the connectors.

Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks

The yellow connector is for the USB socket.

Assuming you're looking at the RNS-510 style Columbus, that's too old to support Smartlink/Android Auto/CarPlay so it doesn't have a USB socket. You'll probably also find your headunit has a 52 pin quadlock but the Columbus uses a 40 pin version.

You probably want to stick with a MIB STD2 PQ style headunit rather than fitting anything older.

Many thanks for the quick reply. I have seen a nearly new Columbus which is described as led C unit which I assume should fit the bill. Getting info on Skoda plug configuration and understanding the many versions feels quite difficult

Your Swing probably has a part number like 5L0 035 150 X, looking at pictures online it has a 52-pin quadlock.

A LED C unit is a RNS-510 style Columbus with a 40-pin quadlock. I think it was last used in a MY14 (late 2014, early 2015) Yeti which is why it's not a simple swap into a 2016 Yeti.

If you do want to fit the Columbus:

- you need a 52 to 40 pin quadlock adaptor (careful, most as the other way round)

- a new facia (they are different sizes)

- a GPS antenna

- the car re-coding with VCDS or similar

Couple of other points:

- the USB socket will no longer work

- you won't have bluetooth as it's not built into a Columbus

Personally, I'd be looking at the Bolero (composition media, 5L0 035 200 X) or Amundsen (discover media 5L0 035 680 X). You'll probably need component protection removing/fixing and a new facia but both a much more modern than the Columbus. The Amundsen also has satnav and would need an extra GPS antenna. Assuming you get a later version, both support Smartlink (Android Auto/CarPlay).
