'Unusual' steel wheel size for Scout

Featured Replies

Hi. I have a 2015 Octavia Scout. Advice sought on steel wheels to replace alloys all year round... Not just winters for 3 or 4 months!

The current wheels it has on are 17s (225/50R17) and I want to out some steels on it so I have a better selection when it comes to off road tyre choice and perhaps (subjectively!!) better ride comfort on the **** roads around where I live.

The tyres I want are Yokohama Geolander G015s in 215/60R16. These should be fine with minimal impact on speedo error. However, obviously I need 16" wheels for them to go on. This is where the fun starts...

If I buy 6 or 6.5J wheels (which would fit the new tyres), then it messes with the offset (currently ET45) and will result in the appearance of the wheels sitting more 'under' the car. In order to keep the same look I believe I need a 7J (which should also fit 215s) with an offset as close to 45 as possible - certainly within 5mm of the original. I also understand that I need a 57.1mm lug and 5x112 bolt holes.

However it is seemingly rather difficult to find 7Jx16" steels, especially with an offset of approx 45. The only set I've found so far which look about right have an offset of 42 (which would result in a step out of 3mm but should be fine) but are apparently only sellable to someone with an Audi... Despite the overall wheel/tyre dimensions being near enough exactly the same (or at least mininal acceptable tolerences).

I don't mind the alloys I have on it but I'd prefer a bit more sidewall, better selection of all season tyres and less worry about the other half scratching the alloys...!

Has anybody had any luck with a similar situation? Or any recommendations?

IMO those wheels should be absolutely fine,a difference of 3 mm in the offset is nothing.

I take it you have already established that they fit over the brakes.

They may be made with an Audi in mind but all the dimensions seem right for your car.

Thanks for the reply JP.

Good point - I haven't for those specifically. I'd assumed that if 6Jx16" fit (the 'normal' advised 16" wheel size) then these would fit over the brakes. I'll have to go out and have a look now to check that there's nothing within 13mm of the inside edge of the current alloys!
