Featured Replies

Hi folks. Am thinking of changing my maf sensor on my mk2 octy vrs tdi cars done 129000 and I have heard the maf is done for around 95000. The question I have is if I change it will it affect my remap. It will b a Bosch the same one that’s on the car now.

A MAF is done when it's done, not by mileage. The quick test for a suspected bad MAF is to disconnect it and force the car onto the default air map. If it runs better on the default map, that's when the MAF is done.

+1 to Ken, if it aint broked leave it alone... a new one shouldnt make any difference as long as its genuine... aftermarkwt tend to be false economy....

Ok I wasn’t aware of that test to try so I have changed it for a like for like seems to be running ok or tho at first I did think it seemed to be a bit slower but think it’s just my mind playing tricks!!

One of the first signs of the maf dying is a lumpy idle - ie revs hunting around and not settling down.

If it is lumpy, disconnect the maf. If the idle settles down then the maf is goosed.

If disconnecting makes no difference, then theres an air/vac leak after the maf letting unmetered air into the system, happy hunting..

If it you swapped like for like, id nearly guarantee its in your head..

That’s just it I just swapped it as I thought probably seen better days even tho had no symptoms of a bad maf! I know if it ain’t broke don’t fix it!! Since swapped it it’s same as having old one on sitting idle when hot is around 1000rpm

Ok an update. Think my issue is the fuel I put in last sat which was bp ultimate as I heard earlier that the garage down the road has had problems with a dodgy batch, plus my car does seem to run better on shell v power but will know for sure next wk when I put v power in it again and it hopefully runs ok
