When your door shuts does it make any locking sound like a click.  I suspect mine is loose when it locks and cars I've had with electric tailgates and friends cars with them have all made an audible click when locked, mine doesn't.  Just wondering?

When the lid closes, I can hear the latch motoring to lock the lid, it does not click as a normal tailgate lid, this is built into the latch lock on the body side not the lid and is completely separate to the actuator struts.

You should see the lid move down slightly as it moves to the lock position.

I've had a play and got it working well now.
