Brake disc retaining bolt

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Hopefully someone can help me, I've tried searching but can't find an answer, if anyone could link a post if there is one that would be great.

First of all the problem I've got is that when turning left I'm getting an intermittent (best kind of problem!) squeel from the front right wheel, sometimes when barely turning, sometimes when turning a tight corner, there's no consistency to it. It sounds like something is catching whilst rotating. I've took the wheel off to have a look and noticed that the retaining bolt for the brake disc has been sheared off in the past, I know this isn't the cause of the noise but it would be nice to sort it out.

First of all has anyone had an intermittent squeel before? It looks like one of the brake pads is constantly touching the disc, I was going to take the calipers off, clean and regrease what's needed and see if that made a difference but discovered that none of my 5 sets of Allan keys has a 7mm in it! Typical.

Second can anyone tell me the size and thread of the bolt that holds the brake disc on?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Well, all that set screw is there for is to hold the disc in alignment until the wheel bolts go through a new disc into the hub for the first time. I'd say someone needed to replace the discs, and the set screw(s) were seized.

This is normal, if you mean the friction material. If you mean the back plate, then the pad is worn out and you need a new set before you have to buy discs and caliper as well.
