Stone chip touch-up....

Featured Replies

I think I may have applied too much touch up! The stone chip is on the rear door and is magnified here, and was quite deep although not down to bare metal. I got a bit carried away in building up the coats - 7 applications were too many! It now looks more like a rust bubble ☹️

Any ideas how to flat off the repair without disturbing the surrounding paint? I used a £6.99 Skoda Business Grey from Touch Up Paint King, which is a good consistency - one part - and a good colour match I thought.

I find that daft wee blemishes like this annoy the heck out of me every time I see the car, they're like eyeball magnets, you start looking for them as you walk up to the car, but most other people don't see anything.

I'd just go for chips away (or similar) and live with the result.

Did you use the brush that came with the touch up. i use a cocktail stick you get better results fill half the chip with paint the other with lacquer

Mix the clear coat and paint, fill the chip enough to get a top, then wet sand it down and polish it up. Voilà!

I mixed the paint and lacquer together and applied using a toothpic, as suggested above. I did try using the little brush that was supplied with the kit I purchased, but was too big and made a right mess!

To sand it back I used wet and dry (of course 😆) on the end of a pen! It provided a flat, small and hard surface so I sanded just the protruding paint mix, initially.

Don't be too aggressive with the sanding as it is easy to knock the mix out of the hole you have filled. Trust me on this 😂
