Battery flat Stymied for engine access?

Featured Replies

 RE SKODA OCTAVIA 2016 2.0 T D I Se L

So As in the title if my battery goes  flat in electronic key or the car battery is flat as I attempt to open my door am I then denied access to car and engine compartment to fit a new battery

Therefore can passenger door be opened in any way in above situation? This appears essential to access bonnet release lever

thanks

Been covered on here quite a few times, but basically it's possible to bend the lever out and around the passenger door edge, with a bit of force.

If either battery is flat you can unlock drivers door manually and then open passengers door from the inside.

That won’t work if deadlocks are in use, which by default they are.

best bet would be to get a charger that can charge or do supply mode via the cigarette lighter And then open the car and pop the bonnet.

otherwise, bend the lever and be prepared to pay for a new one.

thanks

That sounds a good idea

ill have to research to find out what type-for my piece of mind

trouble is would I be able to keep it in the boot

I have a ctek Mxs 7

10 isn’t much more, but the 7 has a 5 year warranty vs 2 on the 10

if you’re talking about carrying one always, as you think you battery is going, you might just want to sort the battery out instead.

a decent charger as above or the stop start version for regular use can also just keep the battery topped up if used monthly, as the efficiency measures mean that many modern cars don’t charge to full to allow for regenerative braking.

Would manually unlocking the door override the deadlock?

Only for LHD cars where the door key lock is also on the left hand side of the car.

You can also put power in via the OBDII port with the correct cable.

Thanks AG Falco

Won’t unlock the deadlock on the passenger door on an rhd car without power

You seem to be speaking hypothetically. You may be getting concerned unnecessarily. When your battery is on the way out you will get some warning signs before it fails completely, giving you the opportunity to fit a new one before you get locked out. See this thread for possible symptoms of failing battery:

If the battery gets too low to start the engine, it should still have enough juice to unlock the doors, provided the car is in daily use. At least this is what I found with my MK2, though with that car the issue would not arise as the bonnet release is on the driver's side.
