Restoring the black on estate roof rails

Featured Replies

My standard roof rails are quite faded, can anyone recommend anything to restore the black?

Vinyl wrap if you don’t use them or get them off and powder cost them.

if you want a cheap option, you could try rubbing peanut butter onto it then taking it off after a few minutes.

i think it’s just a plastic coating from inspection of my own.

You might find removal is quite a struggle, best to wrap in situ...

Some complex answers above....if they are just faded there are loads of products in Halfords or any other motor shop to restore the colour, they may even still do one called, surprisingly,"Back to Black" !

Yeah, I was thinking more like a cream to rub on. Going to Halfords tomorrow anyway so will have a look and report back.

I've used autoglym:

But also tried peanut butter (smooth) some years ago - works well.  I moved on to peanut oil to remove the penchant for wiping off the excess peanut butter with a crusty white bloomer 😇
