Seeking advice on the sale of a fully optioned Yeti in Oz

Featured Replies

Hi everyone - I have a rare example of a yeti which I'm looking to sell in order to upgrade to a KODIAQ. I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice they can pass on to assist with finding someone who will truly appreciate what's on offer? Thanks in advance.

What you are really saying is "how do I get the most money for my car"?

Unfortunately things are only worth what somebody is willing to pay for them and finding the person that will pay the most is a matter of luck, advertising and demand.

You really need to look at how much discount the dealer will give you if you do not trade in the Yeti (unless you are buying privately) against the trade in value of the Yeti. That will give you a base figure that you have got the achieve to make it worth your while. You also have to factor in advertising and your time waiting in for potential buyers and tyre kickers and the fact that, unless you can finance it, you will have to wait until the Yeti is sold before you can buy the Kodiaq and the fact that offers on new cars usually come and go throughtout the year. You could advertise it on here, if you buy Freedom membership, but we do not have a lot of members from Australia. Otherwise I would suggest that you advertise it in as many places as you can to maximise the coverage and be prepared to wait and probably re-advertise with a reduced price as everybody wants a bargain.

Sometimes it is just easier to accept that you are not getting top dollar and trade your existing car in.

@BlackSabbath

What you are really saying is "find me the buyer to pay me the top money I want to get a new car, including the rarity and the sentimental value."

The short answer is there is no such buyer. Prepare to lose money or wait a very long time.

How about giving details?  Our Australian members (few, as Liger1956 says, but enthusiastic) might be able to judge just how rare and perhaps, with their local knowledge, offer suggestions that are more appropriate than we could here in the UK.

Obviously, I am looking to sell my car and sell it for a fair price. Let me be clear, I am NOT posting here to find a buyer nor obtain an idea on price. As mentioned, a car is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. I get it, and it's the reason why I have chosen not to include any identifying details. What I asked and really mean is, does anyone have any advice when it comes to selling an uncommon car (in Australia anyway) which includes factory options that are not often seen. I live in a small fickle city and really need to think outside of the box to find the right buyer. I have advertised on one of the main car buying sites, an auction site and social media. Should I list every single feature of the vehicle or just have a less or more approach? Should I try my luck seeking a trade-in and do away with the hassle of dealing with people or play the long game? I'd imagine there's a number of you who have sold your Skodas in the past and I'm just wondering what your experiences have been and what you think works the best. I think that's fair enough, don't you?

I have been looking at Yeti's in Australia in the hope of finding/buying the right one and have been pipped at the post twice and seen a lot of turnover, so in my experience I would say only two things may stop you from a decent sale price. You either live very remotely (you said small city) which will make private sales difficult, or, the asking price/your expectations are too high. Every proper nice Yeti I have seen generally turns over pretty quick except for one that has been listed for a while.

Thanks for your post. That's promising to hear and doesn't surprise me as the yeti's are great! Fortunately, I do live in a small city, but it's between two major cities. Compared to the market value and the few other cars similar to mine on the market, I think I've formulated a reasonable price. The car has only been on the market since yesterday, but I can see it has attracted a healthy number of views. No one has contacted me as yet, but hopefully it will come.

Ah I think I know exactly which one is yours. That's a good looking Yeti. Good luck with the sale!
