Anyone converted a Skoda from RHD to LHD or vice versa?

Featured Replies

The vehicle in question is a 2015 Yeti but I am asking the general question as I think most of the obstacles will be common to the other Skoda vehicles on similar platforms.

I have to replace the dashboard and headlights anyway and as the car will be used in France if its doable I would like to go the whole hog and convert it to LHD anyone done so?

I foresee the following obstacles.

Pedal box probably handed but might be able to adapt

Steering rack most likley handed unless you know different.

Glovebox probably handed

Lower dash trims around steering column probably handed

Wiring loom will need extending for instrument binnacle and column controls.

Ditto for drivers door controls of windows & mirrors.

HVAC system probably in the way of new position of steering column, this will probably be the costliest and the deal breaker

Brake lines, vacuum lines etc.

What else have I missed like the elephant in the room?

I've never considered trying this. That being said, things I've noticed are handed on a FL MK2 Octavia which is the same PQ35 platform as the Yeti:

- I'd expect almost all the trim panels on and around the dashboard to be handed.

- Front door cards are handed.

- The front door control modules are handed, at least a RHD drivers module is different from a LHD passenger module.

- The wing mirrors are likely to be handed.

- The ABS module might move with different brackets/brake lines.

I think the biggest issue is that even the body shell might be handed so there might not be holes/mounting points to move components such as the steering column...

Take a look at some parts online, anything that's Yeti specific will generally start 5L0. If there are LHD/RHD versions, they typically start 5L1 or 5L2 instead and will probably need replacing...

Massively cost prohibitive as a project I would think.

Pretty much everything, like HVAC, steering rack is a mirror image. The braking system is different as the servo and master cylinder are mounted above the gearbox and the ABS module goes over to the other side.

The body is the same, they use a bulkhead plate to adapt driving side. This is in theory removable but the way they are sealed in means it pretty much wrecks everything in trying to remove it.

Thankyou both for your replies.

Especially informative regarding the 5L0 5L1 5L2 etc and the bulkhead plate being effectively an integral part of the structure when fitted, it too would be handed and wont have its own part number.

Looks like a pipe dream then, if parts were as readily available & cheap like the Octy 2 it would be different, my time is currently free.

As an aside is the Yeti still available or has production ended?

Production has ended as far as I'm aware :)

Yeah production ended 2017
