Manually fold in exterior mirrors

Featured Replies

As in title-if I disable automatic folding  in of mirrors  can I fold in manually whenever I require it?

Don't know sorry, but there's me wishing I had the power mirrors. I did read in the manual that folding the motorised ones could damage them, but not sure if that's because when they try and activate they might be in the wrong position or something.

It's a gear, so when you manually shut them your "skipping" teeth. On other cars if the motor then works it assumes it's at 0 so it folds itself completely the wrong way (for instance, if you fold the mirror in yourself, then tell the car to fold them in, itll try and 8force itself into the car. Honda CRVs are the cars I've seen this on.

I dont know if these cars are the same, but as long as you never work the wing mirror electrically when it's in the "wrong" position for the motor, I cant see much damage being done. The teeth on the gea are strong so just pushing them past shouldn't damage them.

But again, that's just my experience with a different brand of car.

On my 2015 Elegance which has folding mirrors there is a position on the mirror adjustment switch on the drivers door that folds the mirrors electrically - provided the ignition is on.

Sorted it Disabled automatic closure of mirrors on vehicle settings Now can do it manually

It doesn’t matter if they are electric folding or not. All door mirrors are designed to dislodge out of position if gently forced or knocked and then click back in place by hand.

You might get issues if trying to electrically fold them when already out of position but it’s unlikely permanent damage will occur. Abuse testing would have been carried out by the suppliers on your behalf so you won’t break them unless doing something really daft.

By manually I mean I press the button inside the car( on mirror adjuster switch) thus enabling electric closure/ opening I just wanted control of when the mirrors fold

Thanks for input BigEjit

🤦‍♂️

It's not a rocket science, electric folding mirrors are very much idiot and snow/ice proof. No position will be lost, or the mirror will be in any way confused or damaged.

Yes, they can be folded manually, but I hardly see the point why would you do it, since there is a control switch in the cabin.
