Toggle Between Speed Limiter and Adaptive Cruise Control

Featured Replies

I am new to Skoda and this is my first VAG car for years. Hoping somebody can help.

I live in London and I am surrounded by speed cameras. As such, the speed limiter is a huge help in avoiding fines and I am so used to it now, I dread to think what I would be like without it! However, I also jump to cruise control relatively frequently for some faster roads nearby. On my old car (2017 Mercedes C200) with standard cruise, there was a button on the end of the stalk which allowed you to quickly toggle between speed limiter and cruise control. When going through the options list, on my Kodiaq, I decided to upgrade to adaptive cruise (driver assistance pack). I anticipated that there would be a similar toggle mechanism but, having played with the car and looked in the manual, I am not so sure. It appears to toggle between the two, I need to press the assistance button on the dash first to bring up the menu, then scroll down to speed limiter and check the box. This seems a bit of a faff when driving and thought there must be an easier way, but apparently not unless I am missing something?

I know that the assistance pack has traffic jam assist etc. (which seems to work well), its just sometimes, I prefer to have more control. Does anybody know of a "slicker" way to toggle between the two?

Cheers.

If there's no button on the bottom of your cruise control stalk then there's no way to do it apart from in the menus.

That's a shame. Seems to be a bit of an oversight, although this is my first car with ACC so not sure if its normal?

With adaptive cruise, there should be a button on the underside of the cruise control stalk. Pressing that will swap between cruise and speed limiter. I think it defaults to cruise at every restart, but not sure (I rarely use the speed limiter).

As above should have button on underside of stalk

Thanks for the replies.

I thought I was losing the plot so I have just been out to the car and looked again. I definitely do not have that mode button. I don't have my manual to hand, but I am almost certain it's not the same as the image posted either. The stalk looks identical other than the mode button too.

How odd.

What model year is your Kodiaq? Specifications and features do change from MY to MY.

Download your manual here, be sure to select the right production period...

See what options are listed for toggling between the two functions.

MY19 vehicles don’t have the button on the cruise control stalk. It’s done through the driver assistance menu.

My car is MY20 so I think this applies. Seems like a strange thing to get rid of! Very annoying too.

Yes, MY19 onwards. I don't use the speed limiter, but it still makes little sense for them to remove the button for those that use it a lot.

The absence of the button appears to be determined by whether you have regular cruise control (GRA), or Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).

If you have GRA then the button to allow the toggling is still present, if you have ACC it is absent and you have to use the more fiddly infotainment menu.

The only exception to this is if you have a very early Kodiaq (MY17), these came with the button regardless of whether you have GRA or ACC.

No idea why the button was removed very soon after the Kodiaq launched.

Either way, the lack of button on a MY20 with ACC is normal, if not unusual / annoying.

My MY18 has the button.

Have you got GRA or ACC?

ACC.

i miss that button as well, as it means taking your eyes off the road to switch. I do have to say I’ve gotten used to the ACC by now and rarely switch to the speed limiter. It does work okay to switch with the virtual cockpit as the steering wheel button brings up the assistance list and speed limiter is close to the top.

ACC is good, but there are a few built up roads around me where parked cars etc confuse it a bit so still prefer to use the speed limiter. As you say, it's not too bad with the virtual cockpit, but still would have preferred a button. I'd love to know Skoda's rationale for getting rid?

can someone explain what is meant by speed limiter?

What is says on the tin: the ability to set a speed limit for the car 😀

So just cruise control then?

No, you set the limit and drive normally. Then no matter how you accelerate the car will not go above the set speed. Ideal for areas with 50mph speed cams and the like so that you don't lose concentration and get a nice pic of your car from the authorities 😃

Ah gotcha. Sounds great.
Nice feature

It's not infallible, as I found out today. In my last car, the speed limiter would apply the brakes if you were going down hill etc. However, the Kodiaq just beeped at me as it accelerated down a relatively steep section of A road I was driving down.

Yeah, I've had that too, but as the BMW I used to have did that too I wasn't surprised by it.

With the speed limiter, the Kodiaq will shift down to use engine braking to try and keep you below the set speed. However if the gradient is too steep it will beep at you to let you know that you need to help out and apply the brakes.

Cruise control will downshift and also apply the brakes in order to maintain the set speed when going down a hill.

Pity they never have options as low as 15mph for speed limiters, my Citroen was 19mph speed limiter minimum. When driving on plant sites with low speed limits and cameras it’s very easy to be going too fast.

It it does also bug me that it defaults to cruise control, just like the auto dip headlight feature defaults to off and the driving option defaults to normal. Ah Sa la vie.
