Error start-stop system not due to battery

Featured Replies

Hi, my 2014 occy elegance 1.6Tdi, with 79000 miles on the clock, has a primary problem with the start-stop system which says "error". We changed the battery, first, but it stayed.

From when I first had the car it wasn't that keen on damp conditions and could be slow to turn over. So I wasn't surprised to see a problem show on the glow plugs. This disappeared after replacing the battery. This did not fix the error, though, and the start-stop no longer works.

Now, there are some oddities showing, such as one of the temperature sensors reading 4000 degrees (there's coolant, its circulating, don't worry), and the "Neutral sensor" saying it's malfunctioning.

I've read a few entries and I've not seen anything similar.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? The battery has already set me back nearly £200.

Other than this, I love the car (my third occy).

Thanks, Sue

Did you recode the Battery Management System to tell it that a new battery has been fitted? If not it will still be trying to 'protect' the old knackered(?) battery.

I don't know for sure, but the message only comes on after a period of time, and the start-stop will work occasionally. Which would to my mind mean it's responding to something dynamically rather than historically.

I'll check that with Rob, though, when I speak to him this afternoon.

Thanks for the suggestion!

My guess is this will be the root cause. - Now, there are some oddities showing, such as one of the temperature sensors reading 4000 degrees

If one of the parameters are not met, which includes engine temp and various other factors, it will disable the feature.   i assume the car is not telling you the reason in the infotaintment system ?

No, no indication as to what the error is except for those listed on the analyser tablet used by Rob the mechanic.

Possible hint?

Yes, but there are several, if I understand correctly. It's also done it at start up with a cold engine.  Plus there's another message about the neutral indicator. I don't want to just take things apart, only to discover it's something else. These sort of errors often have a profile characteristic of the cause. I'm hoping someone's seen something similar to avoid too much unnecessary work. Fair reason for asking?
