Weird part found under rear seat cushion

Featured Replies

Hi

Last week i noticed a weird bump in the rearseat cushion on the left side (left hand drive car). Today when i lifted the seat cushion of it's hinges, i found this weird metal object (see picture, sunglasses to scale).

It didn't seem to be attached to anything, or have any purpose.

I'm wondering, if any of you guys might know what it is?

There is no part number present on the object, and it has the same color as the exterior of the car. The metal object was not present under the right rearseat cushion.

Looks like a handle that should be attached to the front seat in order to pull up and slide a manual seat forward or backwards. Perhaps it was dropped into your car at the assembly stage. Tech1e might have some idea?B)

Dont think its an automotive part unless for a special adaptation, ambulance, Police car, disabled or driving school controls, it looks designed for low volume production.

Nicely made and painted.

What does the wing nut thing that is made with 2 washers do.  Is it threaded and screws in and out?

The wing nut it self just spins and arent threaded, but it’s hollow and has threads inside, like it should be screwed onto a rod of some kind.

Except this car has seat handles half the size, and that are made of black plastic.

I also thought it might have been dropped, but i can’t belive a part this size could go unnoticed?

What a strange looking object, how frustrating not knowing what it is.

Could it be a locating or handling jig of some sort?

It looks like a pannier support rail for a motorcycle... specifically, one for Cruisers that have leather saddlebags. Fairly small ones, from the looks of that.

If I had to guess, I'd say Yamaha Virago 535.

If its the same colour as the exterior of the car and looks custom made......

I have questions..

What type of car are we talking about?

How long do you own it?

Are you the first owner?

Was it an ex demo car?

@mac11irl

@TheQuestionMan posted it in the Fabia Mk3 section.

I hope is comes back to answer your questions and we are not in a windup.

He double posted it so, or it was moved, as this is in gen chat...

I have an inkling its a retaining bracket for a customised external carrier of some sort. A towbar mounted bike rack maybe?

The 2 holes slipping onto a pair of prongs and the wing nut tightening onto a threaded bar, with the main bar/hoop bit clamping onto whatever being held in place.

Can see a notch in the bottom section where the wing nut bit is located.

Edit...

Actually i bet the headrest bars fit throught it...

A Mod moved it to here because i flagged it up and asked it was moved so that a wider audience could help identify.

I though bike rack device, and on a bike carrier attachment, even an adaption for a disabled driver.

I thought the notch stopped the device swivelling when the wingnut screws down the internal piece that screws onto the threaded whatever.

The OP confirmed that.

@mac11irl

Brilliant.

Thanks.

Still dont know its purpose though...

Tried going through all the accessories for headrests and toe bars on the main skoda website, cant see anything that would be part of..

Looks like a clamp/bracket off a painting panel stand to me. Like you use when hanging up doors etc when in a booth.

Perhaps the car seat arrived suspended on the mysterious bracket on an overhead chain?

This is really bugging me now. I know I've seen this sort of thing somewhere, with that same wingnut design....

Been hanging around mechanics' shops too much!

I do hope that someone comes forward that does know what someone designed and manufactured it to do what function / hold .

If a rear seat seat back was folded forward with the Wingnut uppermost and facing to the rear of the car could something then be secured to that?

likewise - it's doing my head in too...

I was wondering about a dog guard fitting but not sure that's it...

Car: Skoda Fabia 1.0 95 hatchback from 2018 (not the new model with LED headlights) https://media.seek4data.net/Images/7637602f-4978-44e4-902c-1d2dda4f016a/7637602f-4978-44e4-902c-1d2dda4f016a.jpg?w=1000

I have owned the for 14 months.

Brand new car, not a demo.

Thought car makers had high standards, and didn't leave stuff like that. We on the other hand do see doctors leave tools inside people, so maybe it's not unlikely.

When you look on the underside of the metal object, it doesn't have color on the flat end parts of the three "mounting holes".

Given the above new info....

I think tech1e might be correct.

Would explain paint colour matching and lack of paint underneath it.

The paint colour matches what exactly? The exterior of your car?

No paint on the underside means it was sprayed on a flat sheet like that which goes with my observation that its a low volume piece, it has not been powder coated or if it has then it was assembled to a mating piece during the process.

Check the pitch of the holes, do they correspond to the headrest rod centres?

If they do then Rootemoot is correct.
