When I put in Eco Mode, it works as Eco for the gears as its going into E1, E2 etc. But everytime when I start the car, it says it's in ECO mode but it's not, coz it's in D1, D2 etc. Then I press mode then press Eco again, it goes into E1, E2 straight away. Just wondering if it's normal or not? Why do I have to press eco again everytime I start the car when it says I am already in eco mode? Cheers

I called the dealer, they said they all do. And don't know why. Not cool.

As someone else said, I think it is because the car could be driven by someone else and if they didn't know it was in eco they might be in for a shock when it coasts instead of slowing down.

Skoda are probably covering themselves against a claim for damages when the car is stuffed up the back of another one.

I do find it rather ironic that a 280 owner drives in eco...surely 9l/100km is perfectly fine. Unfortunately, you're not able to change the default transmission mode on startup, even with coding.

Time is tough. Desperate times for desperate measures. HAHA!!! Just kidding.

Well I tell you what, if Taxinda goes and adds more taxes to fuel, I might have to use eco as well...

I hope I will be able to drive in sports full time after we have a new government

I suspect that some numpty at VAG broke the code behind the drive mode memory function and they won't admit it. :)

Since my work commute route changed I've started using eco when I drive in and my 2016 car remembers it between runs.  The route is 5 miles on urban roads over speed bumps with a number of traffic lights and as I'm in no rush to get to the park and ride location I just bumble along.  It also gets me 30mpg.  I disable stop-start otherwise I'd waste a lot of fuel restarting as the traffic light timing is such that I have to stop at every single one (a big thanks to the local councils there who wonder why there's a pollution hot-spot near Meadowhall).
