Advice needed on oil type please.

Featured Replies

I have just picked up 1 litre of Mobil Super 2000.Its 5w-30 semi synthetic oil.would this be suitable for my car if not i will take it back first thing tomorrow.

What is your car and what vw mfr certifications are on the bottle?

There's a list of oils in this post, there are also many sites online where you can enter your reg and it will give you a list of suitable oils.

I know my friends 07 vrs 2.0 tfsi requires vw 505.00,my tdi without dpf uses vw 505.01, with dpf it would need vw 507.00, depends on service interval. I think that's correct, I'm sure someone will point out if I'm wrong.

Why not go online to one of many sites (something like halfords) and enter your reg, It will tel you  the right oil.

Not always reliable, I get different recommendations from different sites. Sometimes you just need someone in the know to convince you. I am relatively new to VW brands, I'd never heard of Quantum oil before I joined this site. Thankfully someone pointed me in the right direction and that's what is going in when I get round to it. Due in December unfortunately, I should do it earlier and work my way round to an annual summer oil change so I can enjoy a bit of sun while I do it.

I dont know what engine the OP has as it does not say,

but most likely 5w 30 Full Synthetic III is fine.

But the OP never linked Full Synthetic rather Semi Synthetic so can someone that knows the engine not answer with a correct answer.

My car is a 2009 petrol vrs.I bought a litre from Asda as it was only £4.50 but donr want to use it until i know its the correct one for my engine.

You want their VW504 / 507 then  5w 30 FS III.

You could use the VW502 5w 40 Full Synthetic.  I do in TSI's.

Long life Engines, fixed service oil & filter changes and not Long Life oil....early killed engines.

They changed the labels / containers, still good oil from a good oil producer.

knowing your engine type would be helpful

Best guess, you need a full synthetic 5w-30 in either 502.00 or 504.00 spec for a petrol engine.

If it was me and I desperately needed oil I'd just use the semi-synth as a top-up but I've put JetA1 in a crappy old galant when i was desperate...

Im using Quantum Platinum 5w-40 and changing every 5k miles or 6 months. 160k miles on clock and still running 💪

  • 1 month later...

if you look on the back of the Asda oil i think you will find it covers VW spec 507.00
