My car may need a top up due to a leak, and I can’t find anything in the owners manual that tells me what sort I need.

Thanks f***king thing. I haven’t got the right tool to get the ruddy battery out and I’ve managed to drop a spanner next to the battery. Hope screwfix has got something in to sort out both problems

What tool do you need?

Socket extension bar to undo battery bolt.

Not in stock at screwfix. F’ing typical

Febi 06161 is the fluid I use.

Halfords should have an extension if you have a branch near you.

I presume this stuff works... any idea what concentration it should go in at?

Err, just top it up until it's full.

Nope, that's not the right stuff.

It's just mineral oil, it will work just fine, ignore the conditioner nonsense unless you'll be putting it on your hair!

I used ATF in mine after changing the pump, it's bright red and is still working perfectly after nearly 7 years.

I recognise that state of mind.... A rusted bolt head on the battery box nearly caused me to miss Christmas with my mother and brother. I was one minor rant away from cutting that corner of the battery box out with a chisel or an electric saw. The !ing thing was obviously designed by the Maquis De Sade's ergonomicist.

Ive offloaded it to the garage.... I've had enough of it

This is the correct oil for the Fabia power steering system according to Comma, Halfords, Skoda and VW.

Whilst putting ATF in may not have caused any issues (seen plenty that have personally) it’s not what is recommended or designed to be used by TRW or Koyo.

... Not being funny but if in ANY doubt, either ask the main dealer or pay their price and buy genuine... Yu cannot go wrong and you will most likely only need a small amount. As for the battery bolt,I usually use a tube spanner to make the reach easier. I have a set of seven or so and even if they are not long enough, you can always fit a larger one over the end of the correct size, to extend it. The set cost around a fiver on the "Bay" and came with a little tool roll and the tommy bar.

I don't doubt it, but in my experience manufacturers tend to be overly precious about things like hydraulic oil, this is because there is no agreed standard so each and every manufacturer is free to write their own spec.
