well ive managed to convert my biggest skoda critic ie my brother. literally has given

me stick everytime ive seen him.. guess what he drives now..... an octy 2 vrs.

they'll come around eventually.. which is in a way a bit of a shame cos u guys will

lose the exclusivety of owning a skoda. its weird though. ive been in the car with

plenty (octy 2vrs). loads of people stare and point but he's still ashamed to tell his

m8's hes got one.only real complaint he's got about it is the fact he has to run it in  .

i just put it down to people trying to be funny and in most cases there not. i will probably recieve the same form of snobbery of the lotus elise lot for buying a vxl version but the only way to shut them up on the roads is show them what u got.

-ho

Generally the only thing I have to say is "come on lets go for a wee run then" and most can't believe how good it is.

Afterwards comments range from, WOW! to God I've got to get me one of those!

I've only ever had one remain negative and that was purely down to badge snobbery. I still had the last laugh though when I pointed out that on a recent run with my kids the "exclusive cars" that person wittered on about (in fact Mercedes) out numbered my vRS Fabia by a factor of fifty to one.... so much for being exclusive then. lol

finally another vrs owner in aberdeen on briskoda :D

personally i would tell him its a diesel and wait for him to expolde laughing then giv him a ride, he'll soon shut up :D

Hi

A reply along the lines of "Ah, I see you know a lot about cars" then walk off laughing .

Chris

I work with lots of blind fools who still give me the odd jibe about Skoda.

They'll never test drive my car. :finger: One day, they will grow a proper brain and do the sensible thing and when they buy thier next new car, they will test all of the alternatives. That's the thing though, most people who mock Skoda don't know the first thing about cars.

One could argue that 'people who buy Skodas can't afford a more expensive 'well known' brand. Well, the thing is, lots of us people who have bought these 'well known brands' in the past have had thier fingers burnt and have had the common sense to try a credible alternative.

Personally, I couldn't give a **** what people think of my -

my mates don't really know much about cars and when i told them i sold my clio they always ask "what car you getting again". I say a "skoda Fabia VRS"....they don't really say much at all. This maybe because they think I'm going nuts cos im getting a skoda and being polite they wont say a thing! but little they know as when they are in the car as passengers they will know exactly why I bought it!

I think I will drive around at a reasonable pace and after 10 mins of being in the car I will put my foot down and see em all fall back into their seats and then wait to hear them say "wow".

can't wait. wednesday/thursday this week will be my day!

just quoted price i paid for what i had that tended to shut them up.

Oh and.... now i can compare a golf to octy.... u pay for stupid little things that arn't really needed ie. dampened grab handles, recoiling boot straps on VW and imho octy dash is so much nicer.

I would normally say "At least I own mine"

personally i would tell him its a diesel and wait for him to expolde laughing then giv him a ride' date=' he'll soon shut up :D[/quote']

yup thats my line "and to top it off its a diesel." :finger:

let the car do the talking not the badge. i never say i have a vrs, always a skoda, then a diesel skoda. if they know anything about cars they will ask if its a vrs and shut up.

but i love it :D

I've a Fab vRS 54 plate and a 54 plate Lexus RX300.. her who must be obeyed told me to change one of the cars so I changed the Lexus and bought her a Rav 4 no chance of me selling the SKODA im just having toooooo much fun in it. The skoda badge is far to snobby to part ex...

Even my mrs takes the mickey out of me owning a skoda, she reckons she is going to buy me a flat cap like victor meldrews ! then one day out on a little drive we saw some old pensioner getting a pair of welly boots out the boot of his yellow fabia vrs whilst wearing a flat cap...you can imagine the feedback i got from that.:(

But i love it and thats all that matters even if there does seem a lot of lets say older drivers of skodas here on the isle of wight:P

I can honestly say that at work, where there are nearly 200 drivers, mostly men, aged berween 23 & 64, nobody has made any kind of negative comment, they are generally impressed. Even the lad who has a new Leon thingy ( 2.0 tdi sporty jobby) has been heard to say that he wished he had realised he could have saved 2.5K !

I just tell them to shut up and research their views before stating them. They soon back off and change the subject

Having had my vRS a week and taken a few people from work out in it - all have been very impressed and my boss is seriously considering getting one!!

The only negative comment I have had, came from a mate who hasn’t been in it yet and after me giving him the facts: mpg/price/performance etc he said ‘its still a Skoda’

However he is 30+ single and has just bought a TT convertible with 65000 miles on the clock and no warranty for 14k – imo I think I got the better deal with my new Skoda.

There used to be a lot of negative comments coming towards mine, but I took them all for a quick blast down the M1 and job's a good 'un as they say.

The only person who still slags it off is a BMW driver who wont go out in it, and I ignore him which gets up his back :P

I've only ever had positive comments about mine, quite a few people have said they'd like one after seeing mine. I think the funniest thing i heard was though when I was giving a few work collegues a lift to the pub at lunch and launched my 4x4 out of a junction; one of the guys screamed like a girl!

our family is a real skoda group. parents have a fabia and an octavia, and I have a octavia vrs. when i first got the octavia I got the mickey taken about it untill I pointed out that it was an audi tt with a pratical body!

the worst were the merc drivers until I pointed out that at least mine started and went every day which is more than can be said fro their mercs!

I just say that I'm happy for people to think of my car as an old mans car and nothing special. the more people think of it like that the less likely it is to get nicked and the lower my insurance will be.

Steve

Moved - not Fabia-specific.

I can honestly say that in the two and a half years that I owned my Octavia vRS nobody ever laughed at me, or slagged off my car. Only my little brother wasn't too keen on it at first (now driving an Octavia Mk 2 vRS).

I have started taking a slagging since I bought an Audi TT. Mostly on here. But that's inverted badge snobbery and hypocrisy for you.

Which is quite amusing as so many Octavia Mk I vRS driver love to point out their car has the same engine and running gear .......

but the point is not about the badge I guess...

probably just cos they think it's a really girlie car / hairdresses car.

a bloke at work has got an audi TT and others have audi's. they still take the **** out of the guy with the TT for the same reasons! that definitly not badge snobbery.

My colleauges has a mixture of diesel A4's and Accords, they take the **** out of a chap with a TT "because even Phil's Skoda is faster than that"

If someone takes the **** out of me having a Skoda, I usually reply with "well its faster than your....."

I'm considering a sticker for the back window in the Z that reads "My other car is a Skoda"

Occassionally someone at work will make a jibe, i just sut there with a puzzled/smug grin on my face for the most part.

Funnily enough when i said i was getting a Fabia Vrs bout a year ago a bloke at work in A BMW gave me loads of grief. When i got it he lookat at it and said "it's ok i guess". I took his friend out for a drive and he was really impressed. He told the BMW owner and, since then, he's refused any offer to have a ride in it!

Berk!

That's a fair point, I couldn't care less about the girlie car / hairdressers car reputation (especially as I'm 6'4", 15 stone and work in construction), it's more the comments that it's not very quick or very good to drive. I'll be the first to admit the steering isn't as sharp as my old Mk I Octavia vRS, but other than that it drives very well and is certainly quick enough !
