What do you say when people laugh at you for having a Skoda?

Featured Replies

A mate of mine, and his girlfriend (no kids) have just bought a VW transporter in 1/2 minibus, 1/2 van configuration, for a daily driver.

I find this rather amusing, call it the lorry, and intend to plant a copy of the Sun, some Yorkie bars, and a lemonade bottle full of wee wee in it, as well as fitting a twirly **** to the steering wheel. I think he may try some of the old, tired jokes in retaliation.

Apart from letting him drive the VRS when I get it, what other options are open to me?

I'm not keen on

a) not 'accessorising' his truck or

B) smacking him in the mouth or

c geting smacked in the mouth.

Cheers

Nick

i tell them to try one and see. other than that nothing really now :)

just say its a vw polo in disguise , that costs £2k less

TBH no one has said anything negative about any of the Skodas i've owned, more often I've had people say nice car, better than I thought or the last comment I had was "wow aren't they well turned out"

A guy I work with just bought a Nissan Primera (new shape). He asked if he could have a look in my Octy to compare interiors and announced he liked it so much that he wished he had looked at Skodas before buying but it never entered his mind to do so.

My response can range from **** off cockbadger! to a detailed explanation of it's merits or even a test run, depending on who is mocking the name :D

A guy at work parked his Audi A4 TDi 100 next to mine on Friday. It just so happens that his car is for sale and we got to talking about the virtues of it.

I quickly established that it was a TDi 100 and said, admittedly with a wry grin, that they were good engines and that mine has the similar but higher powered PD 130 engine in it. But yours is a ****ing Skoda he said s******ing at me, yep I said and then pulled the bonnet for him and showed him a few of the Audi logo's.

my mates who drive a 206,punto and clio just get comments about there crap cars back , one did have an MGF , but not for long , it broke , luckily got rid before MG/ROVER went tits up

Pitty, I like the MGF

Back on topic, you think it's bad now - you should have a had a Favorit in the early 1990's.

Even now people love the VRS but when asked why don't you buy one - it's the green badge.

Ignorance is bliss I say - means my car is more exclusive.

i must admit now i own a skoda you just never stop noticing other skodas and there does seem to be a lot of fabia vrs about in the N.W. so i dont think they're as exclusive as they were , which is a shame , but better for skoda and BRISKODA

My father in-law has been looking at buying a mid-sized family saloon for quite some time now to replace his aging Peugeot 406 and I have been plying him with the virtues of owning a Skoda but despite all the signals suggesting that he likes it and acknowledges the high praise from the motoring press, it's still the badge that is preventing him from actually buying one. He's now looking at the new VW Jetta, which is essentially an Octavia in disguise but with a heftier price tag!.

you just can't tell some people can you , keep pestering him , tell him he can go on a holiday/cruise with the money he saves if he buys a skoda

Normally just say..........where have you been for the last 10 years ...or the one that works on VW or Audi drivers ...... didn't you know that Skoda make the engine for your car  .....may or may not be true but the silence afterwards is magic

I can't believe the prejudice still exist tbh. It's amazing as it really is completely unfounded. However, as others have said, I do feel it's a blessing in disguise for us owners because it simply means that our cars retain an element of exclusivity that we wouldn't get if we driving golf gti's around!!!

Especially hillarious when the comments come from owners of really **** marques such as renault or vauxhall (who give their cars away!) imo!

ive just bought a vauxhall :finger: hahha not your run of the mill vxl but still...

i use to say: your choice m8 and proceed ask if theyve ever driven one. (generally the answer is no) then i go along the lines of..... how can u slate something without trying it. tell'em about the fact it was in the top 10 performance cars of 2003 and the people who normally slate drive n reg saxo's

if they still come over all snobbish ill offer a test drive.... certainly shuts them up

Normally **** Off.

But the odd time When a jumped up audi vw driver tail gates me i just boot it and the look of surprize is well 'priceless'.

For some reason people think the fabia vrs is just a bodykited heap of crap from skoda. Well if people want to spend 2k extra to get a vw badge in a polo more fool them.

Just purchased a Vauxhall? Thanks very much, that's another potential Fabia VRS sale dealt with then

I let them drive it!!

Even my dad raised his eyebrows when I bought my Fabia 1.9SDi a couple of years back and ribbed me something rotten about my "joke of a Skoda".

I loaned it to him last July while his Vauxhall Meriva was being serviced.

Strangely, he ordered a Fabia Elegance TDi estate about four weeks later...

i love ma sampson very much. just i would have the car im getting anyday. yeh its a vxl but how many vx220 turbo's do u see? ever less than the fab vrs im guessing

the fabia vrs is good in in the sense that, people will just think your an old man driving it from behind so u neve rget any form of tailgating.. well in my experience of it in a year i havent.

if its your m8's who generally stick for "owning a skoda" just give him the keys if he's insured to drive other cars. ive done it twice now and both times theyve come back with a huge smile on there face

was that a bit of badge snobbery sotonjoe??? lol

If they want to live in the dark-ages.. let them... it's there loss not ours.

I've seen plenty of skoda's on the roads and when I picked up my 06 vrs in march the dealer had another 3 brand new silver ones ready to be picked up by their respective new owners... but saying that I've seen very few fabia or octavia's on the roads around here.

The 54 plate one i had a test drive in is still on their forecourt tho...

I claim I'd never heard of Skoda before I bought the car, but looked at JD Power, Auto Express survey etc etc, and took a test drive. Besides, who wants to drive a gratuitious display of wealth that may offend many folk.

Badge snobbery against vauxhalls? I think you're probably right mate. Let's ignore the vx220 and the menaro (sic?), but I can't stand the rest.

I've been almost forced into buying them due to their finance deals previously and my only experience of their dealers has always been negative - pile em high etc!

For a minute I was worried that I would have to buy a 1.6 astra sporthatch but I'm so immature that I refused to buy anything that had less power / a lower 0-60 than my T-reg civic.

I was very relieved when the fabia vrs fulfilled my every need.:D

I'm sure your experience of driving the vx220 won't be too bad though!

me??

What do I do when people laugh at my Skoda? Tell them it's actually a Ford

Chris

me??

Certainly not Bananaman. I've yet to encounter anyone on these forums who could be construed as offensive. If I ever were, then may my bits be boiled in treacle and served when cool.

Badge snobbery is a shame, my stepdad really likes the Fabia and just to tempt him that little bit more I took him with me when I test drove the vRS last weekend.

Mum is the badge snob, but we are working on that. Currently they have a Laguna (which has had tons of things go wrong) and before that a 406 (admittedly the Pug was reliable for them). I said to her, so driving a French car is better than a VW product?
