Installing a sat nav

Featured Replies

Hi.

I own a 2016 16 plate Yeti SE Outdoor.

When I ordered it, I wasn't ask what extras I would like etc.

I would of liked to have had the option to have/add a sat nav.

I was wondering if it's possible to install the sat nav as it would have done from the factory.

And if it is possible, how much?

Thank you in advance for the help and advice.

A Skoda one will be ultra expensive.

Android based ones will be half the price with lots more useful things to make use of.

Do not go for ultra cheap ones, check out the well known names.

Another option is to run a 12v feed to a cigar lighter installed in the dashtop box. You can then plug in one of your choice in clear and safe view without having to look down at an expensively installed after market job. The installation has been covered in several postings. It's a great mod and not difficult to do.

Well it used to be and I had a Tomtom in first two Yetis which folded down into my top box when not in use with the lid closed over it. I even modified the hinge so the cover only just opened enough to see the satnav and acted as a sunshade.
However current units are too big and all makes now hinge or fit on posts so it is no longer possible. The second hand ones that do fit are out of date and most can’t update as maps too big so no longer supported

Had done that in my Octavia but struggled to see the screen clearly especially for which lane to exit an interchange etc and the sun at certain angles coming from the rear obscured it. It was a very old Tom- tit from 2007

I never get to ride in other vehicles especially newer ones but rode in a fairly recent Mondeo, I was really impressed with the satnav built into the infotainment especially the size of the screen but also the audio which came out of the car speakers and the radio would mute, I realise most of you will be used to this but it was a real eye opener for me.

So I fitted a chinese head unit, but made the mistake of buying a cheap one, most of the faults are because the other functions will crash when the satnav is being used, the satnav itself is so much better than a smaller dash or windscreen mounted one and I will be doing exactly the same in my new Yeti.

I have the Skoda Amundsen satnav in my 2017 Yeti and honestly you are better off with a SmartPhone and a mapping App like Waze or Google Maps, I use Waze on my smartphone in preference to the built in SatNav - more accurate, more up to date and far better traffic information. If your dealer can activate Android Auto or Apple car play on your Yeti then the maps from your smartphone are displayed on the radio display so it looks and operates just like the built in system - only better!

It doesnt display on the maxidot though?

I have tried both and prefer the neatness of the built in system that was thrown in with my car in the final few months free.

However I would never have paid the cost they used to charge, just not worth the money when as you say any smartphone can do this.

My son bought a holder for his phone for a few pounds which secures it to the windscreen A pillar so he can see the screen and use it for navigation; works fine for him without any need to enable the car smart features which cost over £150?

My wife has a 64 plate Yeti and we had the official unit retrofitted when we bought the car a couple of years ago. It works fine just like a factory fit. The car has Bluetooth but no smart link so no chance of anything like CarPlay. It is not a cheap option though. Main dealer  wanted over £1250 to supply and fit. I got a specialist retrofit operation to do it for half the price in the end. Still worth it as wife not keen on phone based version of anything stuck on windscreen.

i did look at a Kenwood  approved option instead which was cheaper and included Apple CarPlay but it looked really odd when fitted and retrofit specialist advised they fitted a load but had removed them as customers were not happy.

if it helps, we used  https://www.advanced-incar.co.uk/. They work across U.K. But are local to us. On their YouTube site they even have a video of the work on our car.

good luck
