Glow plug light flashes when engine cold only

Featured Replies

Hello, I am new on here, though I have looked at the site before. I hope this post makes sense. Recently had the EGR unit changed at my garage (£750) because of flashing glowplug light and limp mode occurring. Problem is the glowplug light is still flashing when started in morning, then goes off when restarted once engine warm and doesn't come on again until engine is cold, usually next morning. I have driven the car for more than 40 miles after restarting and the light doesn't come back on and car performs normally. My garage is reliable as I have used them for more than 20 years, 13 with two different versions of the skoda Octavia Elegance, a 1.9tdi (2002) reg) and now a 1.6tdi (2010 reg). They have taken it back in 4 times but don't seem to be able to track the fault though they have tried several things - all without charge. It is not a Skoda specialist garage and I have read somewhere that such garages don't have the most sophisticated computer diagnostics, though they say what they have is pretty much identical with Skoda dealers. Any ideas would be appreciated, thank you. William

I had a similar problem albeit on a 2.0 VRS TDI. My glow plug light would flash intermittently although the car drove perfectly

I tracked it down to the throttle body and having changed it it’s been fine ever since.

Worth a check of the actual glow plugs if light only flashing when engine cold. Rule out the easiest and maybe the obvious first.
