Sporadic fault code p0684

Featured Replies

Afternoon All,

I’ve got a 2006 Skoda Fabia 6y 1.9vrs

Starts and runs as it should last few days I had eml light on, so bought myself a cheap scanner and it came up with p0684 pointing towards Glow plug module located at side of battery compartment. I cleared the code, contact cleaned the wires and module made sure it was a snug fit and no snagged wires. Fault didn’t come back till this morning upon starting checked again and same code...... has anyone had experience on this and how did they sort it? New control module, glow plug fault, wire fault etc etc. Car has huge sentimental value to me and want to keep it in pristine condition

If you unplug the connector from the module you should be able to measure from each of the 4 relevant pins to get a resistance reading (to chassis/batt-neg) for each plug.  That's where I'd start, as it may simply be that you have a number of duff glow plugs.  The wire colours coming away from the 4 pins are all black/purple according to the diagrams, and the pins may be numbered 4/G4, 3/G3 etc.

Also check strip fuse number 6 over the battery.

Resistance/Ohms, lowest range. Black meter probe on batt negative post, other probe on each pin of loom connector in turn.  Hope to see a very low number for a healthy glowplug.

Right took plug off set multi meter to ohms (200) each of the x4 connectors measured 01.0 except one measured 01.1 so presume plugs ok and looking more to the actual module, only seems to throw an eml on cold starts ?
