Windscreen keeps steaming up.

Featured Replies

I would hope it's just because it's been sat around unused for a while, waiting for delivery etc.

Once you start using it for long enough the cabin can warm up and dry out properly, it'll probably be fine.

Been driving mine for about 6 weeks, aircon / heater has been on all the time.

A few long drives as well so i would imagine it should of been pretty dried out.

Just have to remember to get out there and close them before the sun goes down again before the damp air gets back in.

The damp is already in the car.

If you leave the windows open then the temperature inside the car will be the same as outside the car.

You will then find no condensation on the inside of the windows.

For sure, we actually had some sun here yesterday so the cabin warmed up some what so hopefully the warmer more humid air exchanged with the cooler dryer air from outside.

Wasn't an issue this morning, totally clear as no frost down here.

Still covered the windscreen up though, can save a fair bit of time in the mornings just doing that. Pot luck if its a waste of time or not.

Look at the sky and weather forecast then it's not pot luck.

Sound advice from North Dorset.

That is not how it works nation wide where the difference between a frost or no frost can vary over short distances,

but then people tend to know the weather or micro climate for where they live.  Not so maybe when travelling about.

Forecast is another De-icer morning tomorrow, but then again maybe not, temp might rise after it falls..

Yes, I have a weather station on the roof to help me with my local weather predictions.

Thanks AG Falco

Good up there for Santa's sleigh but not much good for getting the ground or air temp.

I live in a low rise Indian House so not that high.

No Stevensons screen up there though.

The back garden is well sheltered from the wind.

Looking at the weather station history helps as well.

The warmer the air gets the more moisture it can hold. Once this hits a colder surface it condenses. Hence as the delta of cabin to outside temperature increases so does the chance of misting up.

Basically you have three options

1) buy a car with a variable air con pump where the air conditioning is always technically on.  Some vw group cars do this if they have climate control. 😛
2) switch on the air con
3) crack open a window only very very slighly to allow some air to escape.

Noting that the problem with misting MAY not be a air leak, it might be the exact opposite. IE there is noway for the moisture to escape.

Also noting that the glass in most modern cars is much thinner than the past so steams up more easily due to being closer to outside temperature.

Left for 3 days (wiped out with a ****ty cold....)

Car was good when i left it Saturday, didn't feel damp in the air. I drove it to get food supplies, didn't fog up at any point. Heater / aircon on all the way.

It seems when it rains it makes the problem a lot worse, like water is settling in the air vents somewhere? We had a bit of rain over the last few days.

Anyway the Karcher window vac clears it up, just can't get to the bottom bit with the attached squeegee.

Pain in the arse, I'm sure the mk2 wasn't this bad.

They've messed up really with the roof shape with these, well water drainage anyway. Water just pours off the roof straight into the cabin, usually on the edge of the seat.

Will have to get into the habit of clearing the roof off on the drivers side before opening the door...

Left the windows cracked open a bit today as its sunny at the moment, hopefully the cabin will warm up a bit and the humid air will escape.

Does anyone else find their front electric windows seem to stick to the rubber seals? Mine will let go after a 'bonk' its a bit off putting like its putting the motor / drive gear under more strain than necessary.
