VCDS for a new battery

Featured Replies

I purchased a new battery, where would I go to get the VCDS updated with the new battery details? Frankly I wouldn't trust the dealers (who I bought the car from and who have serviced it the last 2 years) because they've messed up so many things, the latest being to forget to reconnect the PCV vent hose to the air filter housing after a full service. I only found this when I checked the oil recently and they also managed to split it. Previously these clowns have managed to snap one the clips holding the air intake pipe to the throttle body clean off (it was when I had the cambelt done - which cost a fortune). They then agreed to replace it but never called me back. Some months later the remaining clip snapped off and I had to drive 45 mile home on limp mode with the engine sucking in unfiltered air. Not great for the longevity of the engine. Hence I would avoid getting them to do the battery VCDS update.

Hi, try typing VCDS register in the forum search - I understand that there is a register giving locations of members with the necessary equipment.

I believe the new battery serial number, battery type and capacity needs to be entered on the vehicle processor  to ensure the charging system knows that a new battery has been fitted - although I have seen members say that they have "invented" new battery serial numbers, to the same effect, when the new battery they fitted did not have a number.

Hope this helps.

If the new battery is the same type and capacity as the old one then all you need to do is change the serial number.
