Tow Bar retrofit - Scout DSG 2019 (150PS)

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am looking at getting a Tow Bar (detachable) retrofitted to my 2019 Scout 150 DSG. I recall seeing something on the spec sheets that a factory fit towbar option was not available for my vehicle as it was ‘not harmonised’ .... what on earth does that mean?

I obviously want to have it professionally installed so as to ensure the warranty is not void and that the electronics are properly coded.

I am in the North Worcestershire area and work in the Midlands so any advice on reputable fitters locally is appreciated! 👍🏼

If it is indeed “ not homologated “for towing  it means it cannot legally have a tow bar fitted, at factory or aftermarket.

As above... if your specific model is indeed not homologated you cannot have a towbar fitted even if all you intend is to use it as a bike carrier and not to tow.

I wasn't aware that there was an octavia model that wasn't homologated as there is in the kodiaq range. Perhaps you should specifically check with skoda UK if you're dealer doesn't know. (haven't heard that "harmonised" term before, did you mean homologated?)

Although perhaps you should have been clear with your dealer before purchasing that at some point you intended to tow, they should have informed you of the lack of towing capability on your chosen model in any event.

It would suprise me if the scout 150 wasnt able to tow so id check with the dealer.

Skoda has done this before thouugh as i belive the kodiac 150 manual 4x4 7 seat cant tow either due to being not harmonised.

At the time I had no intention of towing so it was irrelevant.

It may well have said ‘homologated’, apologies.

Albeit, even if I would have asked, it seems that sales reps in any Skoda dealership I have spoken to don’t have enough product knowledge and are very poor at making the relevant enquiries with ‘Skoda UK’.

it is bizarre though, as if I would have purchased this vehicle second hand how would I ever have known? If it is the case that it would be illegal to fit one, why is there a train weight of the manufacturers plate?

Just have a look at the weight plate on the car.

If it does not have a GTW (Gross Train Weight) then it is not homologated for towing.

The second weight is GTW

Then it must be homologated for towing, if it was not it would not be able to display a GTW.

Very occasionally manufacturers will change a bumper or exhaust which will mean their type approved towbar cannot fit which is another issue.

Thankyou logiclee,

I suppose I am better off getting something in writing from Skoda UK to confirm that I can retrofit one without voiding the warranty.

Cheers

There is an awful variation between dealerships and individual sales men and their knowledge of the product they sell, God help a prospective customer who isn't clued-up on what they want when they go in...

Having said that, both dealers I spoke to about my Kodiaq were both aware of certain models not being homologated to tow when I advised them I wanted a towbar fitted.
