DSG stuck in third? Now OK

Featured Replies

Today on the way back from the shops my DSG stuck in gear. I think it was third but there was no D3 showing on the multifunction display. It was like having it in tiptronic mode (and possibly it was by accident) so I pulled over as soon as I could. Turned the ignition off and on again and it was fine. Gave me a bit of a fright.

It's a 59 reg, so 9 years old and long out of warranty. 109k miles and due a service.

HAS ITS OIL BEEN CHANGED REGULAR?

Probably just a software or sensor glitch. No cause for panic just yet. Keep an eye on it for now.

Well I've only had it 5 months but the service light has just come on. I have arranged for it to be serviced in a couple of weeks by my brother in law, who is a mechanic. Do you think it needs the gearbox servicing?

Incidentally it just did it again tonight when leaving the house. Went from D into R and was revving like in neutral. Killed the power and restarted and it was fine.

First port of call is to plug the car in and read any logged fault codes.

Does your brother-in-law have an OBD diagnostics reader?

I think so. He also has a friend who is a VAG specialist so I'll see if he can run it by him.👍

It's within 6 months of purchase - why not take it to the dealer you've bought it from:-

From https://www.theaa.com/car-buying/legal-rights

If a fault comes to light after 30 days but before 6 months you’re entitled to a repair, replacement or refund.

  • It’s assumed in law that the fault was present at the time of purchase unless the seller can prove otherwise.
  • Unless you’ve agreed otherwise, the seller (dealer) has only one opportunity to repair (or replace) the faulty vehicle after which, if they fail to repair it, you’re entitled to a refund.
  • In the event of a refund following a failed attempt at repair during the first six months the seller may make a 'reasonable' adjustment to the amount refunded to take account of the use that you’ve had of the vehicle.

Thanks but it's probably just six months since I bought it. I only had the problem twice so it's not fair to say it had the problem wjmhen I bought it. But hey, thanks for looking out for me!

My brother in law should be servicing it next weekend, if he has time.
